Porter Earns Fourth Congressional Endorsement—the Most of the Field
Top Democrat on House Oversight Committee Backs Porter for Governor, Citing her Credentials Standing Up to Trump
IRVINE—Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) today endorsed Katie Porter for Governor, pointing to her record defending Californians against Trump’s attacks. The first LGBTQ+ immigrant elected to Congress, Garcia understands the importance of a Governor who will stand up for the rights of every Californian—which is why he’s backing Katie.
“Katie Porter is a fighter and a strong progressive who is ready to defend California against Trump on day one,” said Rep. Robert Garcia. “As members of Congress, we were partners together on the Oversight Committee, and I’m proud to call Katie a mentor and the first Congressmember to support me in my race for Congress. I’m excited to fight alongside her for Orange County and California families.”
Rep. Garcia and Porter previously worked together on the House Oversight Committee, holding Donald Trump and special interests accountable for cheating California families and raising costs. As Governor, Porter has pledged to stand up to Donald Trump’s attacks on families and immigrants, call to abolish ICE, and lower costs for Californians.
“Congressman Garcia and I have a long record of going toe-to-toe with the Trump Administration to defend California families—and winning,” said Katie Porter. “I’m grateful to receive Congressman Garcia’s endorsement, and I look forward to fighting for Californians together. His leadership in Washington holding the powerful accountable will make him a close partner when I’m Governor.”
Katie Porter is tied as the top Democrat in the race for California Governor. She has the highest favorability and name ID of the field and enters the last seven weeks of this race with the strength and momentum needed to win on June 2nd. In just the past week, Porter raised over $1 million from grassroots donors and surpassed more than 100,000 individual donors to her campaign.
Katie’s grassroots coalition is the largest in the race and continues to grow as voters tune into the election. Congressman Garcia joins other elected officials backing Katie like Senator Elizabeth Warren, Reps. Dave Min (CA-47) and Derek Tran (CA-45), and Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (AD-73). Katie has already earned the support of several labor unions, including UNAC/UHCP, Orange County Employees Association, IBEW Local 441, National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), Teamsters California, United Auto Workers (UAW), Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), and Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transit Workers Union (SMART). Other major groups like EMILYs List, Elect Democratic Women, Women’s Political Committee, Fund Her, California Women’s List, and Vote Mama PAC are backing Porter too.
As much as I like Congressman Garcia his endorsements have not proven to inspire others. He was one of few endorsing Porter for U.S. Senate in her failed bid against Schiff in 2024.
