First Truman Awards Speaker Announced, Former OC Congresswoman and California Gubernatorial Candidate Katie Porter to Speak at Truman Awards

Katie Porter

After rolling out all of our deserving awardees for this year’s 30th Truman Awards Dinner, the DPOC is proud to announce our first speaker, Orange County’s own, former Congresswoman Katie Porter. An icon of grassroots campaigns who stormed on to the national scene following her upset victory in 2018 over Republican Mimi Walters, Porter became a fixture in progressive Democratic politics for her ubiquitous white board and videos created from the front seat of her minivan that garnered millions of views and endeared her to a national audience. In Congress she championed financial reform, stood up to big banks, and was a staunch defender of workers rights. Porter entered the open race for Governor of California in early 2025 and early polling shows her to be the established front runner in that race.

Despite Katie Porter’s OC roots as a UC Irvine Professor and fixture in local politics for the last 7 years, this is still a huge opportunity for OC Democrats to potentially hear from California’s next governor and the Democratic Party of Orange County is extremely honored to welcome Congresswoman Porter as a speaker to our 30th Truman Awards Dinner on September 20th.
