Last Saturday, a scholastic track meet at Yorba Linda High was promoted as a “Save Girls Sports” rally because one of the student athletes is a trans-female. Some of the right wing nut jobs at the meet decided to hassle the kid’s Mom and PYLUSD board member Leandra Blades outed the kid’s identity on social media (note: the athlete has done intervews with the NY Post and hey have spoken at council meetings but a board member should strive to protect all kids in her capacity as a board member and she failed here).
She wrote:
As we pointed out, transgender kids have a right to participate in scholastic sports. I have to wonder what pocket the money being raised for this event was deposited into as this effort does nothing to change CIF’s rules based on State of California law.
Track and Field is a non-contact sport. No one is going to be injured by a trans-athlete competing. But is it really about protecting female athletes or true transphobia?
Here’s some shockers for the PYLUSD Board; girls are competing against boys in interscholastic sports and winning! Do these girls need protection?
Sports like wrestling (girl’s wrestling leagues are growing more popular, but in school systems where there isn’t a team, girls wrestle boys), football, and baseball. Arizona has a state wrestling champion who’s female. Does she need protecting? Enjoy these links.
The story has data about the sheer number of girls wrestling against Boys in Iowa.
And from the story, this statistic: According to data gathered on all fifty states (and D.C.) by the National Federation of State High Schools Association, more girls are playing on boys football teams than ever before. For the 2018-2019 school year 2,404 girls played 11-man tackle football on boys teams at the high school level. That’s more than has ever been recorded in the NFHSA’s history
For the post on Blades Facebook page, lots of folks who think they are qualified to diagnose mental illness who fail to recognize their transphobia. Meanwhile, let’s send some love to the mother of the trans-athlete who gets it. You love your kid unconditionally. And she does.
