An Update on Saturday’s Track Meet in Yorba Linda and a Look at Girls Competing and Winning Against Boys in High School Sports

Last Saturday, a scholastic track meet at Yorba Linda High was promoted as a “Save Girls Sports” rally because one of the student athletes is a trans-female.  Some of the right wing nut jobs at the meet decided to hassle the kid’s Mom and PYLUSD board member Leandra Blades outed the kid’s identity on social media (note: the athlete has done intervews with the NY Post and hey have spoken at council meetings but a board member should strive to protect all kids in her capacity as a board member and she failed here).

She wrote:

“This is the mother of NAME HIDDEN. NAME HIDDEN is the male athlete who participated in female sports at the Yorba Linda High School CIF preliminaries track meet this weekend.  The male athlete’s mother approached Sonja Shaw who was supporting our female athletes. As you can see, Placentia-Yorba Linda Board member Carrie Buck is with the male athlete’s mother showing support to the male athlete and his mother along with members of the Lavender democrats and Pride at the Pier. These groups also came and advocated for men to compete in women’s sports at the PYLUSD board meetings.
At the May 6, 2025 board meeting, we watched as Carrie Buck, Marilyn Anderson and Tricia Quintero advocated to defy Title lX and federal law and voted to deny a resolution to keep men out of women’s sports. Simply put, they support men in women’s sports.  Myself and Todd Frazier voted to protect female athletes and will continue to do all we can to protect the rights and safety of our female athletes.”

As we pointed out, transgender kids have a right to participate in scholastic sports.  I have to wonder what pocket the money being raised for this event was deposited into as this effort does nothing to change CIF’s rules based on State of California law.

Track and Field is a non-contact sport.  No one is going to be injured by a trans-athlete competing.  But is it really about protecting female athletes or true transphobia?

Here’s some shockers for the PYLUSD Board; girls are competing against boys in interscholastic sports and winning!  Do these girls need protection?

Sports like wrestling (girl’s wrestling leagues are growing more popular, but in school systems where there isn’t a team, girls wrestle boys), football, and baseball.  Arizona has  a state wrestling champion who’s female.  Does she need protecting?  Enjoy these links.

Iowa has one too:  https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/high-school/2023/02/15/reanah-utterback-wrestles-against-boys-iowa-high-school-state-wrestling/69904311007/?fbclid=IwY2xjawKRpp5leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETA4SGtoSXBCcGtUUmU2Rll4AR52ckf5nIxsrO0xL5LsdM7cc_k_lY0jeuhVx4VFuPNJR0E_4svWWq_abXr7YQ_aem_TQK6CsO1OwlYnIlQ4W_Ohw

The story has data about the sheer number of girls wrestling against Boys in Iowa.

And from the story, this statistic:  According to data gathered on all fifty states (and D.C.) by the National Federation of State High Schools Association, more girls are playing on boys football teams than ever before. For the 2018-2019 school year 2,404 girls played 11-man tackle football on boys teams at the high school level. That’s more than has ever been recorded in the NFHSA’s history

For the post on Blades Facebook page, lots of folks who think they are qualified to diagnose mental illness who fail to recognize their transphobia.  Meanwhile, let’s send some love to the mother of the trans-athlete who gets it.  You love your kid unconditionally.  And she does.
