The Democratic Party of Orange County has finally refused to renew the charter for the Anaheim Democrats club.
The club has been pushing boundaries for some time and, recently, the County Party denied to renew the club’s charter. Sources tell TheLiberalOC the charter renewal documents were submitted well after deadline and the club’s submitted bylaws were insufficient and did not adhere to the DPOC’s bylaws.
There’s been internal debate over this club since witnesses say they saw Vern Nelson, OJ’s publisher, and Mike Robbins, both club officials – passing out copies of a flyer during Anaheim’s State of the City Address earlier this year. The flyer suggested the Anaheim “Mafia” Cabal – which included city officials, the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, and Disneyland executives — were responsible for the murder of former council member Jordan Brandman, whom the flyer called a whistleblower. Nelson issues the club’s announcements on the OJ blog.
The flyer, in the photo above, was sent to me the day of the State of the City address.
(a slight correction here) The DPOC will be informing the club about its reasons for not renewing the Charter; a source for a June letter said communications about demanding Nelson’s resignation was delivered citing Party rules for Democratic Clubs. The Party decision includes the club’s record for supporting non-endorsed candidates for office and allowing non-endorsed candidates from speaking at club meetings
Brandman died in the fall of 2023 of an apparent accidental drug overdose.
The flyer wasn’t the last straw. The application for charter renewal was. The club will be instructed to remove the words “Democrat” and “Democratic” from all signage, social media and web properties. As of today, there are no changes to the club’s website.
The group meets the second Thursday of each month at 7PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Harbor Blvd in the city. As a non-chartered club, Anaheim Democrats cannot use “Democrat” or “Democratic Party” for any ongoing activities.
This action should be a wake up for other clubs not following the easy-to-follow guidelines for managing Democratic club activities.
If any of these losers had any money, the should be sued. One can surmise a Disney lawyer earns more in two hours than Diamond did in 2024.
This is just ANOTHER example of these clowns sending flyers to DPOC members featuring vulgar, racist, hurtful content.

The DPOC is a joke. It hands out multiple charters in one city and doesn’t follow the endorsement recommendations of its charters. So what does being a local club member mean anyways?? And, the DPOC really has no fundraising infrastructure except their yearly awards banquet that is good for 250k or so. No real money flows into the DPOC. Its like a high school extracurricular activity club with the political infighting included.

I’ll admit, Vern was correct, one person did defend Jeanie Robbin’s fashion choices as being politically irrelevant to her political positions. Her calling DPOC chair Ada Briceno a “FAT ASS” publicly at an Anaheim City Council Meeting, not withstanding.

The Anaheim Democrats club has been removed from the DPOC web page; sources are telling me they are trying to re-brand as “Anaheim Dems” which would also violate the Democratic Party rules. Eric, I hear they are looking for a lawyer to fight this.

Democratic Party rules?? Umm the dpoc is not a chartered organization of the California Democratic Party. The first amendment allows you to call yourself whatever you’d like. I don’t think the “Democratic Party” cares or has rules against what the Anaheim Dems do. The Democratic Party??? Can the DPOC kick me out of their club? Who cares I’m not a member. Can the Democratic Party? Me thinks not. I didn’t subscribe to any rules when i registered as a democrat.

When appealing (or “fighting” as Vern would say) the decision to revoke the charter of your political club, it might not be a great idea to have the husband and wife team of Mike and Jeanie Robbins to stand up at a public city council meeting and call the Party’s chairperson (a woman) a “WHORE”. Probably doesn’t help.

The DPOC is no more relevant and important than the OCGOP. Both organizations are populated by ass kissing sycophants and political fanboys that are more concerned about photo ops for framed pics they can put on their office wall then driving any real political change or improvement in the daily lives of people. Both Orgs support party machines that reward the bootlickers and toadies and sustain the currently broken system we are forced to endure so these asshats can remain in power. Tony Strickland and the Ed Laird machine in HB are a prime example on the right.. there are too many to count on the left. We need to blow up the irretrievably broken system and hit the reset button.
With due respect Bob, you’re wrong about the DPOC. When I moved here in the late 90s, OC was deep red. Through hard work, the county is very purple. The three biggest cities are blue. Our Congressional delegration has only one Republican. Our county BoS has 3 Democrats. I’m encouraged the DPOC will build on its successes rather han blow up the good work its done.
