Agran Supporter Group Targets Kim’s Donor List

Irvine council member Tammy Kim posted this in Facebook earlier today:

My opponent has resorted to an alarming tactic: his supporters are actively tracking down my donors (Irvine residents) at their places of employment and sending them targeted emails directly to their workplaces. This not only crosses ethical boundaries but also undermines the spirit of fair campaigning. Such behavior is a clear attempt to intimidate and pressure those who believe in our campaign’s vision for a better future. We should be focused on discussing the issues that matter to the people of Irvine, not engaging in underhanded strategies meant to silence and discourage. This is a time for transparency and integrity, and I call on my opponent to put an end to these unacceptable practices. Our campaign will continue to stand firm, supported by the community, and committed to running a campaign rooted in respect, truth, and the highest ethical standards.

The email text is below as a JPG and the copy is alarming:

While the group identifies as supporters of Council member Larry Agran, there’s no evidence this is a coordinated effort approved by Agran’s campaign, rendering Kim’s accusation that “her opponent has resorted to an alarming tactic”  not proven.  I have a call into Agran for comment and will report when I hear from him.  But this sort of thing is not his style.  I’m sure that if he’s aware of this, he is trying to find out as much as he can before issuing a public statement.  Thta’s just how he is.

Irvine’s Tammy Kim

The Free Palestine Irvine Coalition is likely the same group trying to recall Tammy Kim.  It’s highly unlikely they will gather enough signatures and, should she win the Mayor’s race, she can’t be recalled for that.  If she loses the election, there’s no need for a recall period as she’s out of office.

AIPAC doesn’t invest in city council level elections.  Kim isn’t a racist.  Kim isn’t partnering with corporate Jewish PACs because its unlawful to coordinate campaigns with PACs.  Kim has walked out of meetings, with Council member Kathleen Treseder citing threats.  Irvine police say there are no credible threats against either person.

When you give to a candidate — and its more than $99 — your contirbution is public information.  It doesn’t take much to track down home addresses or business affiliations but to use emails like this to go after a candidate you don’t like is wrong.  It’s also wrong to blame an opponent for something he or she may have no knowledge of whatsoever.

Neither Tammy Kim or Larry Agran are racist ir bigots.  Let’s stick to issues here.
