Jing Sun Announces Campaign for Irvine City Council

Community Services Commissioner Sun launches a campaign with broad community support and over $14,000 already raised

IRVINE, CA – Today, Chair of the Irvine Community Services Commission and prominent realtor Jing Sun proudly announced his candidacy for Irvine City Council in District 3. Sun has already raised more than $14,000 for his City Council campaign, drawing on his connections as a popular real estate agent, particularly in the AAPI Community.

The newly created city council districts were enacted by the voters in the March Primary, and they will be effective for the November 2024 election. The 3rd District will not have an incumbent on the ballot, making the contest an open race.

Currently serving as Chair of the Irvine Community Services Commission and appointed by Vice Mayor Larry Agran but now serves under Tammy Kim, Sun has been instrumental in expanding community facilities, improving recreational programs, and allocating grant funding to help low and moderate-income residents. His work ensures all Irvine residents enjoy a high standard of living with access to exceptional parks and community amenities.

Jing Sun said, “As a father, an immigrant, a small business owner, and a city commissioner, I know the meaning of the American Dream. My campaign is about preserving the vibrant, safe, and inclusive community that we love. And I’m committed to supporting our local businesses, promoting sustainable growth, fostering innovation, and ensuring that our city remains a beacon of opportunity for everyone.”

Sun is entering the campaign with significant endorsements from local and regional leaders, reflecting his deep connections and respected status in the community. His endorsers include:

  • Tammy Kim, Irvine City Councilwoman
  • Kathleen Treseder, Irvine City Councilwoman
  • Cyril Yu, Irvine Unified School Board President
  • Soha Vazirnia, Vice Chair, Irvine Community Services Commission
  • Doug Elliott, Irvine Community Services Commission
  • Youssef Kaddeche, Vice Chair, Irvine Transportation Committee
  • Branda Lin, Vice Chair, Irvine Planning Commission
  • Naz Hamid, former Irvine Community Services Commissioner and Community Leader
  • Jeremy Ficarola, President of Cypress Village HOA and Community Leader

Jing Sun serves as Chair of the Irvine Community Services Commission and is a prominent real estate agent in his community. Educated at UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business and Peking University, Jing has made Irvine his home for over a decade, where he lives with his wife and two daughters. His personal story is one of hard work, community service, and a deep commitment to the values that make Irvine unique.

  1. The councilmembers domain will include the entire city until 2026. Because of the staggered elections, Dist. Five will get their representative last. There is a potential exception to this.
Supporting local businesses is fine, but the Irvine Company pushes them out the door with their always-rising leases. Ace Hardware left. Our population has gone up by 50% in 20 years, and still growing. The council will not stop rubber stamping new zones for human filing cabinets. How about 100-unit active senior co-ops? Nope, the Irvine Co. wants your monthly payment until the day you die or move.
I have to drive to goods and services, many times outside of Irvine.
I mail my bills if I see the Postal truck coming, or drive to the Office and walk it in. Even Irvine’s drive-through mail boxes are closed because of theft. Over the weekend, my car was at the mechanic’s shop (not in Irvine), and was vandalized. They broke the ignition trying to steal it. This would drive me to drink, but my local Chili’s is closed, taking away my neighborhood pub within walking distance.
