GARDEN GROVE, CA          Just a week after releasing a massive endorsement from the Los Angeles Times Editorial Board that called her “the Democrat with the best chance of knocking Steel out of her seat,” Garden Grove Councilwoman Kim Nguyen-Penaloza today announced another huge labor endorsement in her campaign for congress from the Communication Workers of America, Local 9150.

Upon endorsing Councilwoman Nguyen-Penaloza, CWA Local 9150 President Peter O’Brien stated:

“The Communications Workers of America Local 9150 is proud to endorse Kim Nguyen-Penaloza for Congress! She has always stood up for and delivered for working families across her community and we know in Congress she will be a champion for good-paying jobs and protections for workers everywhere.”

The daughter of a Vietnamese refugee and a Mexican immigrant, Kim Nguyen-Penaloza was the first in her family to graduate high school and college. At just 25, she won a historic election as the youngest person and first Latina ever elected to the Garden Grove City Council. A leader on women’s issues, Councilwoman Nguyen-Penaloza has stood up to harassment and sought equality and justice throughout Southern California and has fought to ensure that immigrants, like her parents, have the dignity and opportunity to succeed in our communities. A homegrown leader, Councilwoman Nguyen-Penaloza attended Clinton-Mendenhall Elementary, Doig, Intermediate, and Santiago High School. As a healthcare expert, she will bring a much-needed public health background to Congress, having formerly worked for CalOptima and now as a Program Manager for a large health plan. Kim is the Democratic Party endorsed candidate in CA-45.

CA-45 is one of the top pickup opportunities for Democrats in 2024. It is a Biden +6 district with a Democratic registration advantage of 5.6%. Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Latino voters are a majority of the district at 51.6% — with Vietnamese voters making up the largest block of AAPI voters at 58.4%. If elected, Kim Nguyen-Penaloza would be the first person of Vietnamese descent ever elected to Congress in California and only the third in US history. She would also be the first Asian-Latina in Congress and one of a growing group of millennials seeking to make change on our most crucial issues. Councilwoman Nguyen-Penaloza is the only candidate for Congress in the nation endorsed by both BOLD PAC and ASPIRE PAC, the political arms of both the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Asian-American, Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Members of Congress. The LA Times Editorial Board has endorsed her campaign to replace Rep. Michelle Steel.

  1. Meanwhile drunk Vern Nelson, a person accused of sexual assault and domestic violence, is mocking Kim having recently given birth, calling it “quiet quitting.” Such a filthy mysoginist! What a scumbag! HE now claims he is working with Derek Tran. Does Derek support Vern and the toxic politics he represents?

  2. Vern triggered by the truth. Loves to lie about his enemies and any woman who challenges him but then cries like a little bitch when called out on the truth here. Word in the hood is he allegedly bragged to his Anaheim allies about having rape fantasies of several female oc politicos. Should he be locked up before he acts out on them?

  3. If anyone (stupidly) thought Vern and Greg were NOT racists after dozens of hateful / hurtful scribes the calling of ANY CLASS of people “Dogs” or, “Corrupt
Viets” , more recently they should look in the mirror. Vern especially could be ,
Mindful of attacking spouses, given his wife’s penchant for social media.

    • I wandered over there this morning, and I’m shocked to discover from Greg Diamond that I have no friends. Who were all those people at my birthday party? And, per Vern, I need to use proper capitialization and punctuation, while Greg notes that Katie Porter lacks political skills because she should have known to EAIT before running for US Senate. And Greg calling Eugene Fields a “thug” strikes me as a tad racist. And Greg thinks Democrats can’t think for themselves asking people to wait before casting a ballot for DPOC Central Committee candidates. As for Greg’s attack on KBNP, the woman has a full time job (he does not); she holds elective office (he does not); she’s a candidate for office who’s been endorsed by the local and state party and the LA Times (he is not running for anything). She had a complicated pregnancy. Thankfully, Diamond has not polluted the gene pool with offspring of his own.
