After releasing a major endorsement last week from the Orange County Labor Federation, sealing her as the choice of organized labor in the race for California’s 45th District, Garden Grove Councilwoman Kim Nguyen’s congressional campaign today announced another impressive endorsement from Orange County Congressman Lou Correa, who represents the neighboring 46th Congressional District.

Upon endorsing Ms. Nguyen, Congressman Lou Correa stated:

“I’ve seen Kim grow from a leader in Garden Grove to a true champion for her community. It’s time for homegrown leadership in CA-45 and Kim Nguyen is the right choice for this district and our community. I’m proud to endorse Kim Nguyen for Congress and know that she’ll be a voice for OC working families in DC.”

Since announcing her congressional campaign, Councilwoman Kim Bernice Nguyen has amassed over 60 federal, state, county, local, education, and labor endorsements including Congresswomen Linda Sanchez, Katie Porter, Jill Tokuda, and Sara Jacobs, as well as Congressman Lou Correa, CHC BOLD PAC, ASPIRE PAC, PODER PAC, and Women in Leadership (WIL).The campaign has also released endorsements from State Senator Tom Umberg, Former State Assemblyman Tom Daly, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, Assemblyman Josh Lowenthal, Assemblyman Avelino Valencia, and OC Supervisor Katrina Foley, in addition to the Orange County Labor Federation, LA/OC Building and Construction Trades Council, UA Local 250, the Teamsters Joint Council 42, The Orange County Employees Association, IUPAT District Council 36, and the National Union of Healthcare Workers, showing that she is the Democrat who can win the primary and ultimately defeat MAGA Republican Michelle Steel.

The daughter of a Vietnamese refugee and a Mexican immigrant, Kim Bernice Nguyen was the first in her family to graduate high school and college. At just 25, she won a historic election as the youngest person and first Latina ever elected to the Garden Grove City Council. A leader on women’s issues, Ms. Nguyen has stood up to harassment and sought equality and justice throughout Southern California and has fought to ensure that immigrants, like her parents, have the dignity and opportunity to succeed in our communities. A homegrown leader, Ms. Nguyen attended Clinton-Mendenhall Elementary, Doig Intermediate, and Santiago High School. As a healthcare expert, she will bring a much-needed public health background to Congress, having formerly worked for CalOptima and now as a Program Manager for a large health plan.

CA-45 is one of the top pickup opportunities for Democrats in 2024. It is a Biden +6 district with a Democratic registration advantage of 5.6%. Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Latino voters are a majority of the district at 51.6% – with Vietnamese voters making up the largest block of AAPI voters at 58.4%. If elected, Ms. Nguyen would be the first person of Vietnamese descent ever elected to Congress in California and only the third in US history. She would also be the first Asian-Latina in Congress and one of a growing group of millennials seeking to make change on our most crucial issues. Councilwoman Nguyen is the only candidate for Congress in the nation endorsed by both BOLD PAC and ASPIRE PAC, the political arms of both the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Asian-American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander Members of Congress.
