GARDEN GROVE, CA             Just a day after releasing a massive endorsement from ASPIRE PAC, the political arm of the AANHPI Members of Congress, Kim Nguyen’s congressional campaign today announced another endorsement from the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW). This continues a Summer of momentum for Kim Nguyen that includes endorsements from Congresswomen Linda Sanchez, Katie Porter, Jill Tokuda, and Sara Jacobs, as well as the Orange County Employees Association and Teamsters Joint Council 42. This support comes after the campaign also released endorsements from CHC BOLD PAC, the LA/OC Building and Construction Trades Council, State Senator Tom Umberg, Former State Assemblyman Tom Daly, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, Assemblyman Josh Lowenthal, and OC Supervisor Katrina Foley, among many others.

Upon endorsing Ms. Nguyen, NUHW President Sal Rosselli stated:

“NUHW members understand how important flipping the House will be toward improving the lives of working people, and we’re ready to knock on doors and make calls to elect Kim Bernice Nguyen to Congress. Kim has demonstrated the know-how and the determination to expand health care access, improve patient care and put mental health care on equal footing with medical care. In this critical election, our 17,000 members are standing with Kim because she will fight for the working people and patients of her district..”

Since announcing her congressional campaign, Kim Bernice Nguyen has amassed over 60 federal, state, county, local, education, and labor endorsements, showing that she is the Democrat who can win the primary and ultimately defeat MAGA Republican Michelle Steel.

The daughter of a Vietnamese refugee and a Mexican immigrant, Kim Bernice Nguyen was the first in her family to graduate high school and college. At just 25, she won a historic election as the youngest person and first Latina ever elected to the Garden Grove City Council. A leader on women’s issues, Ms. Nguyen has stood up to harassment and sought equality and justice throughout Southern California and has fought to ensure that immigrants, like her parents, have the dignity and opportunity to succeed in our communities. A homegrown leader, Ms. Nguyen attended Clinton-Mendenhall Elementary, Doig Intermediate, and Santiago High School. As a healthcare expert, she will bring a much-needed public health background to Congress, having formerly worked for CalOptima and now as a Program Manager for a large health plan.

CA-45 is one of the top pickup opportunities for Democrats in 2024. It is a Biden +6 district with a Democratic registration advantage of 5.6%. Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Latino voters are a majority of the district at 51.6% – with Vietnamese voters making up the largest block of AAPI voters at 58.4%. If elected, Ms. Nguyen would be the first person of Vietnamese descent ever elected to Congress in California and only the third in US history. She would also be the first Asian-Latina in Congress and one of a growing group of millennials seeking to make change on our most crucial issues. Councilwoman Nguyen is the only candidate for Congress in the nation endorsed by both BOLD PAC and ASPIRE PAC, the political arms of both the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Asian-American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander Members of Congress.
