NUHW Is The Latest Major Healthcare Workers’ Union To Throw Support Behind Min For CA-47

IRVINE, CA — Today, the National Union of Healthcare Workers announced their endorsement of Dave Min for US Congress in California’s 47th Congressional District. NUHW joins statewide labor organizations–the Service Employees International Union and the California Federation of Teachers–as well as an impressive cohort of locals, including UFCW 324, Teamsters Joint Council 42, IBEW locals 47 and 441, and IUPAT District Council 36, in throwing support behind California State Senator Dave Min. Sen. Min is quickly emerging as organized labor’s choice for CA-47, and is the only candidate in the race to receive the early endorsement of a local or national union. Dave Min has a record of advocating on behalf of healthcare and other service workers, and is quickly emerging as the candidate of choice for Orange County’s working families in the healthcare industry.

Founded in 2009 by rank-and-file healthcare employees, NUHW now represents more than 16,000 members, including medical technicians and technologists, clerical workers, psychologists, pharmacists, housekeepers, dietary workers, nurses, nursing assistants, drug rehabilitation counselors, mental health clinicians, engineers, and a number of other hospital and home healthcare workers across Orange County and California. Dave Min has been an advocate for working families throughout his tenure as the State Senator for California’s District 37, and will continue that close partnership with organized labor in Washington, DC.

Sen. Min is organized labor’s choice for CA-47, and is the only candidate in the race to receive the early endorsement of a local or national union. After impressive fundraising hauls in the first and second quarter of this year, Dave Min continues to set the pace for Katie Porter’s open Congressional seat by adding to his political coalition throughout the summer. Min has consolidated support from local, state, and national endorsers. Min entered the race with support from current CA-47 Representative, Katie Porter. California’s 47th is an open Congressional District in Orange County that includes the Cities of Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Newport Beach, and Seal Beach, and portions of Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, and Laguna Woods. Incumbent Katie Porter is vacating the seat to run for U.S. Senate. In 2022, Porter defeated former Assemblymember Republican Scott Baugh by 3.44% in this “toss-up” district. State Senator Dave Min currently represents over 80% of Congressional District 47 in Sacramento. In 2020, Min received over 158,000 votes within CA-47, defeating incumbent John Moorlach by 5.15%. 19% of the registered voters in CA-47 are of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, including one of the largest Korean-American populations in the country.
