Joe Kerr is a Democratic candidate for Congress in CA-40 which is currently represented by Rep. Young Kim, who doesn’t live in the district. He’s received two key union endorsements this week — Teamsters Joint Council 42 and the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association. Kerr was endorsed last week by OC Congressional representatives Lou Correa, Mike Levin and Katie Porter.
Kerr writes:
“Thank you Teamsters Joint Council 42 for your endorsement! As a long time labor leader, I will go to Congress and fight for unions, their members, and working Californians.”
and…
“I am incredibly humbled to have the full and unwavering support of the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association in my run for Congress.
The OC Firefighters Association is an exemplary model for how to work through issues and solve problems. I was honored to serve as their first President. Together we survived what was at the time the world’s largest municipal bankruptcy, started and organized our own firefighter union, prevented massive layoffs, created our own healthcare trust, pre-funded retiree healthcare, restored employee rights, created new revenue streams totaling hundreds of millions of dollars, legislatively created and funded a fair retirement age for America’s first responders here in Orange County, and we accomplished all of this without raising one cent in new taxes! I intend to bring a firefighter’s style of common sense problem solving to Washington.”
