Are Those Republican Governors Sending Undocumented Immigrants to “Woke” States Violating Federal Law?

Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are making headlines by sending busloads and planeloads of undocumented immigrants to cities and states they identify has “woke” or having “sanctuary” status.

Neither man have appeared to coordinate this interstate transport with the US Department of Homeland Security or Immigration and Naturalization Services which is a violation of 8 USC 1342 ii.

So this means both are essentially “Coyotes.”

DeSantis’ stunt of two planeloads of immigrants from Venezuela — with a number of small children — to Martha’s Vineyard cost Florida taxpayers $12 million simply to “own the Libs.”  And the good people of Martha’s Vineyard have responded by setting up emergency shelters, organizing meals, and play activities for small kids.

From the Cape Cod Times:

A receptionist at Martha’s Vineyard Community Services looked up late Wednesday afternoon to find a group of 50 people – men, women and children – standing in the center’s parking lot.

The migrants from Venezuela didn’t speak English but, with the help of a Spanish translator from the nearby Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, community services staff learned the group was from Venezuela and had been put on a plane with nothing but a brochure from the island’s service center.

..

Foxnews.com reported that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent two planes full of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard as part of his “promise to drop off undocumented migrants in progressive states.”

“This all started to transpire late (Wednesday) afternoon. They came unannounced,” said The Rev. Vincent G. “Chip” Seadale, rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Edgartown where the migrants were to sleep Wednesday night. “Since we had several years ago spearheaded efforts to help the homeless on the island, we opened our doors.”

Dukes County officials also announced it had opened emergency shelters across the island and asked for volunteers to help with what they described as “an unexpected ongoing urgent humanitarian situation.”

At about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, state Rep. Dylan Fernandes, D-Falmouth, tweeted from the ferry: “Currently migrants are being dropped off on Martha’s Vineyard by chartered flights from Texas. Many don’t know where they are. They say they were told they would be given housing and jobs. Islanders were given no notice but are coming together as a community to support them.”

Carla Cooper said volunteers ordered pizza, salad and soup to feed the people, aged 3 to adults in their 40s, “who had had no food or water since 6 a.m.”

“People were just showing up (at the church) with food, rice and beans,” she said. “When something happens to our island, we come together to help. We are going to take care of these people.”

Cooper, head of the Democratic Council of Martha’s Vineyard, said, “It is disgusting and repulsive that these people were herded like cattle onto a plane, not told where they were going and our community was not notified. This is not a joke, this is insanely ridiculous.”

Not to be outdone, Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent busloads of undocumented immigrants to Vice President Kamala Harris’s Washington DC home.  From the Washington Examiner, a right wing daily, this:

Since April, Texas has bused over 7,900 migrants to Washington, D.C., and since Aug. 5, transported over 2,200 migrants to New York City as part of “Operation Lone Star,” according to data from the Texas governor’s office. Recently, Texas added Chicago to the mix and shipped over 300 migrants there.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has snapped back at Abbott, decrying the busing gambit as “a politically motivated stunt.” She recently opened an office to respond to the onslaught of migrants pouring into the capital from Texas and unsuccessfully lobbied for National Guard logistical support.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has similarly dissed the move, arguing that “immigration enforcement is a federal authority and states should not be meddling in it.” She also blasted Abbott for harboring a “track record of causing chaos and confusion at the border.” The Biden administration has argued that it has done more for the border than former President Donald Trump.

But Abbott has been unwavering, adamant that Texas has been ground zero to a migration crisis that the Biden administration has ignored and exacerbated.

“It is interesting that they all are concerned about a few dozen or a few 100 migrants coming to their town and we get that many per hour and in almost every community across the border. So we’re dealing with this all the time, and I’m just helping out our local communities who are located on the border,” he told Fox News.

And Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has been busing migrants to Washington, DC since May. But those passengers must sign waivers that the free trips are voluntary.  It is unknown if the waivers are in Spanish.

From CBS News, this:

CBS News immigration reporter Camilo Montoya-Galvez notes that, unlike the other cities Republican governors have chosen as destinations for migrants, Martha’s Vineyard is not an urban, metropolitan area with a robust social services infrastructure: There are no large refugee or migrant services organizations on the island. There’s no Justice Department immigration court where the migrants can attend asylum hearings. There’s no ICE field office where migrants can check in. As it hasn’t been a top destination for recent arrivals, the flights will also raise questions about whether all the migrants transported there on Wednesday knew where they were going.

Again, these actions seem to be a clear violation of federal immigration law. And political leaders who round up human beings and treat them like cargo to be shipped elsewhere never look good, do they?

Not very Christian-like these governors.  Matthew 25: 31-40. “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”

I’d like to know where the outrage is among pastors and priests for the way these governors are treating human beings?

  1. I know it’s fraud based on the fliers they were handing out. https://www.justsecurity.org/83232/was-desantis-shipping-migrants-to-marthas-vineyard-a-crime/
None of the purported arrangements that the Migrants were told about had been made and, indeed, no notification of the Migrants’ forthcoming arrival had been given to any governmental authority or other organization that may have been able to provide the services. Id. ¶¶ 30, 43, 50. The Migrants were left stranded “in the dark, with nothing, on a tarmac on an island” and unable to reach the Perpetrators by phone. Id. ¶¶ 45, 46, 60, 76, 92. Perpetrators did not travel with the Migrants, instead “completely abandon[ing]” them, id. ¶ 44, and did not respond to their calls or messages once they arrived in Martha’s Vineyard, id. ¶ 77. Some had a forthcoming court date in Texas relating to their immigration proceedings and now are concerned about being absent.
