Anaheim, Calif. — On Monday, a sworn FBI affidavit publicly alleged Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu likely engaged in bribery, wire fraud, false statements, obstruction of justice and witness tampering. As a result of the FBI probe, Attorney General Rob Bonta has requested an immediate pause on the Anaheim Stadium Sale, where wiretapped recordings show Mayor Sidhu solicited a $1 million bribe, among other likely crimes.
“Now more than ever, we must do everything in our ability to reestablish the public’s trust in our government and Anaheim City Hall,” said Anaheim Councilmember Avelino Valencia. “…I’m calling [for] the resignation of Mayor Harry Sidhu from the office of Mayor of Anaheim and for him to also focus on his legal defense and let our city move ahead from this chapter.”
“Orange County is done with elected officials who sell out their constituents for personal gain,” said Democratic Party of Orange County Chair Ada Briceño. “We need honest leadership that works for taxpayers and working families in Anaheim. I echo Councilmember Avelino Valencia’s call for Mayor Sidhu’s immediate resignation. We need a leader who won’t put profits over people.”
“‘Sellout Sidhu’ should not be anywhere near public office. It takes serious hubris to find yourself being investigated for soliciting bribes, deceiving constituents, lying to a Grand Jury, leaking insider information, avoiding taxes, and then attempting to cover it up – all in one go. We must elect former federal prosecutor Ashleigh Aitken to clean up City Hall,” said Democratic Party of Orange County Executive Director Ajay Mohan.
