Anaheim’s Sidhu under Federal Investigation for Sharing Confidential Information on Angels Stadium Deal

The OC Register has the scoop.  From the paper:

Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu is under federal investigation in connection with the city’s sale of Angel Stadium, according to information the city released Monday, May 16.

An affidavit filed in federal court May 12 says authorities are investigating whether Sidhu “shared privileged and confidential information with the Angels during stadium sale negotiations, actively concealed same from a Grand Jury inquiry, and expects to receive campaign contributions as a result.”

The warrant and affidavit came to light Monday, when state Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office requested that an Orange County Superior Court judge put on hold an agreement between the city and state that was intended to settle a dispute over whether Anaheim broke an affordable housing law with the stadium sale deal.

Time for a Democratic mayor in Anaheim.

The FBI has recordings of Sidhu. Yikes!  Time for Harry to start talking about a deal because this is going to be ugly for the city moving forward.

  1. To be clear. As damning as this is, there is NO INDICTMENT as of now.

I would not breakout the dancing shoes yet.
One winner here is Lorri Galloway, who will now face off against a somewhat tainted challenger in Asliegh Aitken.

The question is: who else jumps in? Moreno?

    • Moreno is termed out; can’t run for Mayor. Trevor can’t carry the entire city because he’s from the Hills and is a bigtime Trumper. Agree that Galloway is a beneficiary here but so is Ashleigh.

My issue is until another buyer comes along, the stadium property is only worth what someone is wiling to pay; it might be assessed for a billion, but if someone only offers $200 million, that’s it.

    • They didn’t. The OC Register, LA Times and Voice of OC all broke the news around the same time. And frankly, it’s best to follow the professional journalists on this one.
