AD-68: Avelino is In. Tardif salutes Daly

Anaheim Council member Avelino Valenica has formally declared for Assembly to replace Tom Daly.  Valencia made his pitch on several social media platforms:

Dear neighbors, friends, and family,

I am proud to announce my candidacy for State Assembly, District 68.

My background and career are rooted here. These experiences have equipped and prepared me to effectively represent Anaheim, Santa Ana, and Orange in the State Legislature. As your Assemblymember, I’ll listen, work hard, and build the coalitions needed to reduce homelessness, protect public health, improve schools, restore lost jobs, decrease crime, combat climate change, and enhance infrastructure. Few of the challenges we face are simple, but none are insoluble.

I’m excited to launch my campaign and look forward to the many conversations that lay ahead. My hope is to earn your support.

In Service,

Avelino Valencia

Republican candidate Mike Tardif took the classy route and thanks Tom Daly for his service to the district and the state. But he also took a shot at what his party believes are failed policies.

“I would like to thank Assemblyman Tom Daly for his many years of public service to the residents of Orange County.  Central Orange County will now have a new representative in the state legislature and I look forward to bringing forward that fresh voice,” said Tardif.  “This open seat gives residents of the 68th an opportunity  at a new direction for California.  While my opponents will change, the policies of the majority party are failing. On behalf of our families and businesses in the district, I am ready to offer new solutions to the biggest issues facing our communities.”

Santa Ana’s Bernie-Bro socialist candidate Bulmaro Vicente is in the race and could be joined by former Assembly member Jose Solorio, former Santa Ana mayor Miguel Pulido, termed out Anaheim Council member Jose Moreno, and others.  Democrats have a strong advantage is voter registration with more than 50 percent and about 56 percent of registered voters are Latino — but while the 68th is blue its not a navy blue.  Moderate candidates always seem to do better in Central Orange County than far left candidates.

  1. Jose Moreno might be running out of offices to run for, coupled with the brewing controversy with his wife’s recent appointment as Principal of Western High School AGAINST the wishes of a sizable number of students and parents.

“Boomer” ought to set his sights lower for now. He’s got good pedigree, his association with CHISPA will turn off a good number of mid-term voters.

Don’t count Mike out, just yet.

  2. Apparently Vern’s “Asian Hateessages to KBN, were made public today.

How ANYONE Democrat or Republican associated with Vern Nelson and the Orange Juice Blog can remain silent and talk to them is amazing. Where the “F” is Karen Hinks??…

    • I was texted screen grabs of them; noted Vern dissed Kim in a comment calling out her actions against Julio Perez (good), Jeff LeTourneau (Better), and Vern himself (best). It’s what leaders do. She’s pals with Avelino and Lou Correa and that’s a problem?

  3. What is to become of Dr. Moreno?

Word is he is going to be censured for his dishonesty in the frivolous stadium lawsuit by the Robbins. Add to that the disturbing images of Julio Perez dancing at his daughter’s Quincenera, he might want to re-think his political ambition.
