BUENA PARK, CA — Coalescing support among Orange County leaders, Mayor of Buena Park Sunny Park announced today she received the endorsement of Mayor of Costa Mesa John Stephens in her race for Orange County Board of Supervisors District 4. Throughout his years of service to the City of Costa Mesa, Stephens worked diligently to develop infrastructure projects for his community and programs to aid COVID-19 recovery. In a statement, Stephens underscored the need to elect Park, who will prioritize science-based policy and working with local cities to serve her constituency. “In her time as a Mayor, Sunny Park has demonstrated a great dedication to improving the lives of Buena Park residents. She has stepped up during the pandemic to put the health and safety of her constituents first, established herself as a climate action leader, and developed solutions-based policy to tackle the homelessness crisis head on. I am proud to endorse Sunny for Board District 4 because she will build upon her strengths and experiences as a leader of her city to benefit all of Orange County.” Last week, Park announced she had raised $200,000 in her campaign for Orange County Board of Supervisors District 4, demonstrating the strength of her campaign. As an immigrant and mother, she has a track record of fighting for change and improving the lives of people she serves. She is the best choice to help Orange County through these difficult times.” Sunny Park is the first AAPI woman to serve as Mayor of Buena Park. Ms. Park is a community-minded leader with the skills to bring a meaningful impact to the livelihood of Orange County. In addition to serving as Mayor, she is representing her community on the Orange County Fire Authority and the Southern California Associations of Governments on the Community Economics and Housing Development Committee. She was recently appointed to serve on the Revenue and Taxation Policy Committee for the California League of the Cities, API Caucus. Prior to her election to the City Council, Ms. Park served as a State commissioner on the California Board of Accountancy (CBA) regulating certified public accountants licensed to practice in California. Ms. Park actively serves the community as director of the Orange County Korean American Citizens’ League and the Buena Park Noon Lions Club. She is a long-time advocate for inclusiveness and mentorship. She led the City’s 2020 Census drive for complete count with great success. To combat social and racial inequity, she created the Human Relations Committee consisting of seven city commissioners. She led pro-bono legal clinics and mentorship programs as president of Orange County Korean American Bar Association. For her tireless efforts to make the community better, she received the Presidential Gold Medal for Volunteerism from the former U.S. President, Barack Obama. Sunny Park is an of-counsel attorney at Asher Law Group representing many families in estate planning and probate matters. Ms. Park earned her LL.M. in Tax Law from New York University School of Law, her J.D. degree from Golden Gate University School of Law, and her B.A. degree from Yonsei University (연세대학교).
