An Early Endorsement for BoS District 2 – Kim Nguyen

So far, the District 2 Board of Supervisor’s seat has two candidates — Garden Grove Council member Kim Nguyen (who is Vietnamese and Mexican-American) and Santa Ana Mayor Vince Sarmiento.  Both are competent, effective in their current roles, and decent people.  The Democratic Party is going to have a tough choice to make for this district.

TheLiberalOC endorses Kim Nguyen for this position.

Nguyen has been a leader in representing Garden Grove since her election and she has led on initiatives protecting women, efforts against anti-Asian hate resulting form COVID19 misinformation, and speaking out against even leaders of her own party when their actions hurt her efforts or the campaigns of other Democrats.  She led on the issue of asking CSU Long Beach why they hired Julio Perez to teach an online class.  And she led on trying to repair damage to the party in Little Saigon after former Party Vice Chair Jeff LeTourneau’s remarks on Ho Chi Minh.

As a Councilmember, Kim has been a leader for new economic development, infrastructure projects, and park improvements for her Garden Grove district. She’s worked to improve community policing with faster public safety response times. She stands up to bullies.  She listens.  She holds people accountable.

And that’s the rub.  Holding people accountable.

There’s a shining example of Mayor Sarmiento not holding someone accountable.

Back in 2016, Santa Ana resident and my friend Thomas Gordon and I hired C.J. Ford, a private detective, to find out where then Santa Ana Planning Commissioner Sean Mill was residing.  Mill had made comments to colleagues on the Planning Commission about a part-time job he had coaching high school football in Riverside while working (and allegedly living) in Santa Ana.  Ford investigated the entire month of May 2016 and was caught taking photos of Mill’s car parked outside his wife’s home in Riverside on the morning of July 5.  Ford owned up that he was a PI and investigating Mill’s residence and Mrs. Mill said then “My husband lives in Santa Ana.”  Mill resigned the next day via an email.  He told the Voice of OC and the OC Register he moved in mid-June and was planning to resign before the next meeting.  Ford’s investigation and evidence suggested Mill had been living in Riverside all along, and at least since May.

Mill has given two different accounts of when he moved to Riverside.  He told the OC Register he moved in mid-June and told the Riverside Press Enterprise he moved after he resigned.

The PI’s findings were presented to the Santa Ana City Manager Davide Cavasos on July 7 but the city took Mill at his word.  Mill, now a Trumpy-Republican in Riverside, has run for and lost an election for city council. He was on the KFI John and Ken show once saying an investigation about his residence in Santa Ana cleared him. That was a lie because the city took Mill at his word and never investigated or cleared him.

At a city council meeting shortly thereafter, Mill was honored for his work and his biggest fan was Sarmiento, who didn’t even bother to acknowledge the PI’s report or news coverage with his praise for Mill.  With evidence, contradicting statements, and a failure to seek more detail, I was shocked listening to Sarmiento fawn over Mill.  One friend told me “well Sean must have a file on Vince.”

Nguyen would never let that slide.  Her work leading on a complaint regarding Julio Perez’s appointment to adjunct faculty at CSU Long Beach demonstrates he willingness to get to the bottom of how and why Perez got that job and her leadership with other elected officials demanding answers is the sort of fighter District 2 needs to battle the Andrew Do’s and Don Wagner’s of county government.

TheLiberalOC endorses Kim Nguyen for County Supervisor in District 2.

  1. Well your rival Vern Nelson endorsed Vince Sarmiento. Glad he accepts support from a guy convicted of 5 DUI’s, who has sexually assaulted Anaheim Councilmembers, sexually harassed female Democratic activists, perved on 16 year old girls in his apartment complex and cavorts with the likes of Greg Raths and the worst of the worst of Trump Republicans.

  2. Lest not forget, Greg Diamond in a display of his utter wisdom. Alluded to the fact that he published a blog post accusing Vince of stealing $2Million on an anonymous post from a psychologically challenged disgruntled SA Employee. Leading to as many as 100 comments condemning Vince, David Benevides and other upward mobile DEM’S.

Vince would be well to leave Vern, Donna, Greg, Zinger and company in the sewer in which they swim.

Go read the racist anti Asian scribe Vern spews. Kim should just kick his drunk ass once and for all.

  3. This is Kim’s race to lose.

Vince’s track record pales into comparrison to KBN. It is ironic to a degree that the “so called” Progressives support him, as he has used his families wealth and stature to ride UP his political career. BUT I guess Don Corleon was right about the closeness of friends and enemies. BEWARE VINCE.

    • Vince has serious funds behind his effort. Again, I like them both but a county supervisor has to govern by demanding accountability. If Vince wants to, I;m sure there’s a copy of that PI’s report at City Hall

  4. So has Vince Sarmiento commented on being endorsed by Pervy Vern? Then again he is also supported by rapist Julio. They are mad at a woman candidate who stands up for women. I bet they all wish for the good ole days when women just shut the hell up. Go and hit Donna some more Pervy Vern. She is clearly the passive type who takes your crap.

    • I don’t think Vince cares about or reads the blog; Kim has already earned endorsements from Senator Dave Min and Congresswoman Katie Porter.

  5. Greg Diamond commented on OJ Blog that Kim’s calling out of sexual deviant Julio Perez makes her problematic. Why do Greg and Vern defend Julio so much? They are so anti-women. I wonder if Greg rapes his own wife? Not saying he does, just saying I wonder.

    • I don’t believe Greg and his wife have any issues at all and while I don’t care for the guy the “when did you stop beating your wife” questions are the sort of thing he’s known for (including making stuff up out of whole cloth). But their mutual dislike of Kim is more tied to those who are close to her than anything to do with policy.
