Goodbye Dumpster Fire, Hello 2021

It’s been a tough year.  Progress was made.  And we took some steps backwards.  Trump is out.  Biden and Harris are in to clean up yet another Republican mess.

I’m saddened we’re losing Harley Rouda and Gil Cisneros in Congress.  I’m thrilled Josh Newman and Dave Min join the state senate.  I’m thrilled Democrats gained many seats on city councils and school boards.  Candidates I love won.  Candidates I don’t lost.

There is still much work to do.

For 2020, it was a year to hold on to things that matter while embracing change.

In September, we had to put down my office mate.  Cinnamon was 17 and 7 months.  She was a smart and loyal pup who lived her entire life with a heart murmur.  She came to my office every single day.  It was hard to say goodbye.

Two months later, we welcomed Bella into our home and hearts; and she loves everyone she meets.

I bring up the dogs for 2020 because it’s an apt metaphor — no matter how bad things can get, there’s always a promise of something new to be passionate about without forgetting foundational truths.  The pups are both very much the same while being different in many ways.  Not unlike the many Democrats we speak with daily in Orange County.  We’re headed in the same direction but often take different paths and time to get where we are going.

So Happy New Year readers.  Stay passionate and keep fighting the good fight,
