FULLERTON, CA – Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) was endorsed by Democratic Presidential Nominee Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
“When good fortune came his way, Gil Cisneros got to work for his community, increasing access to quality education for all kids in California’s 39th District. In Congress, Gil has fought to take on pharmaceutical companies and lower the price of prescription drugs. And during this pandemic, Gil has made sure frontline workers have the PPE they need. He has shown leadership and service from his time in the military to today, and I am proud to endorse him for reelection,” said Vice President Biden.
“I’m honored to be endorsed by Vice President Biden, and I’m proud to fight alongside him for hard-working families in the 39th District. Vice President Biden is committed to protecting and expanding affordable healthcare, getting our economy back on track, and keeping our schools and communities safe from senseless gun violence. As a Navy Veteran, I’m grateful for his family’s service and his dedication to defending our brave men and women in uniform. We’re ready to win this seat once again in November, take back the White House, and restore the soul of our nation,” said Rep. Cisneros.
During the Democratic Presidential primaries and before California’s primary, Rep. Cisneros endorsed Vice President Biden. In the 2018 cycle, Vice President Biden visited the 39th District to campaign for Rep. Cisneros and the Orange County Democratic candidates. He released an ad, “My Friend,” commending Rep. Cisneros for his military service, for starting a charitable foundation that invests in students from underserved communities, and endorsing him for Congress. Rep. Cisneros and his wife, Jacki, have been long-time supporters of Vice President Biden’s “It’s On Us” campaign to end sexual assault and violence on college campuses.
Gil Cisneros is a former U.S. Naval Officer and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (2), the National Defense Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his exemplary service to his country. Gil is Advocate and co-founder of The Gilbert & Jacki Cisneros Foundation, an organization committed to improving the level of Hispanic education in the country. Gilbert’s dedication toward philanthropy began when he purchased a winning California Mega Millions lottery ticket in 2010. Gil and Jacki partnered with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the city of Pico Rivera, California to create Generation First Degree Pico Rivera, with the goal of putting a college degree in every Hispanic household in the city. Gil’s commitment to education led him to be appointed to former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative’s advisory board and President Obama’s Advisory Committee on the Arts for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
California’s 39th Congressional District, split between Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino Counties, will be one of the most competitive districts in California. Hillary Clinton won the district by a whopping nine points.
What shocking news. Great scoop.
