On my drive home this week from the office, I noticed two Trump pop-ups on Irvine Blvd in Tustin; they are selling Trump flags, shirts and #MAGA hats. As my business is based in Tustin and I pay a business license fee to operate, I made a couple of calls.
- There’s a state law that allows for pop up stores of this type. And they did try and apply for a business license, but that part of city operations is shut down temporarily due to COVID19.
- As long as they are not blocking the sidewalk, these stores are treated like a picket line or a protest. The police won’t shut them down unless the stories or traffic creates obstacles. This also doesn’t prevent a Biden store from opening right next to them or for those who don’t like the president to protest next to the pop-ups.
- The people selling the Trump gear don’t necessarily support the president; it’s a job at a time when the President’s response to COVID19 has cost 40 million Americans jobs and with the economy at an 11% unemployment rate. Don’t hassle the workers; if you must, hassle any customers. And in three days of drive-bys, I saw only one person looking at the merchandise. And no one at the booth was wearing a mask. Mask It or Casket, I say.
- Tustin Mayor Pro-Tem Letitia Clark is working on a plan to keep pop ups like this away from busy intersections where traffic might get snarled. She’s also concerned about the possibility of some physical altercation between Democrats and Republicans over this. If you’re at one of these sites and you feel things are getting out of hand, call the police and start recording.
I stopped to snap some shots and was pleased to see two women holding up homemade Biden signs. And there were about 25 yards away from the pop up and getting lots of honks from the traffic making its way East on Irvine Blvd. Well done ladies.
So, if you see a pop up in your community you can call the police if they are blocking the sidewalk or creating a traffic hazard. If near a shopping area, alert the property manager so they can prevent parking in their commercial area so customers can buy their MAGA crap.
Or, contact the Biden campaign about opening your own Biden pop up and follow the same rules.
Go Trump 2020!
Pop-up in Yorba Linda as well. Ughhhhhh.
Appreciate this story! BYEDON2020
Its such an eyesore..
“.. hassle any (Trump) customers.” What do you mean by that? To “hassle” could involve assault. You could be encouraging assault on Trump supporters.
Thanks for the info…..leave them be. Put our energy to the things that matter like getting people registered and voting. Explaining they need not vote on every issue on the ballot. Start teaching people about how to vote for judges!
There’s a pop-up in Rancho Santa Margarita as well; currently on Santa Margarita Pkwy at Lowes/Wendy’s entrance. Last week, protesters were on the opposite side of the driveway; I waved and gave thumbs up to them.
I’ve been driving past this one up to four times every day, and have yet to see a single person there other than the poor schmuck deigning to sell those cheap, Chinese made trump tchotchkes. Hope he’s not being paid on a commission only basis.
This is brilliant – tangible, in-real-life propaganda. Why are wealthy republican extremists so GOOD at propaganda?
Imagine all the people passing by… thinking:
“Wow I was beginning to think I was outnumbered by non-trumpers and maybe I should question my beliefs…but now it’s clear there’s tons of support, so no need to question my values – THEY’re wrong”…
or
“Wow, just when I thought we were gaining support and our anti-trump movement was getting ahead of them, just look how many booths there are selling his stuff – they MUST be popular… shoot, I give up.”
The booths are EVERYWHERE. The ads on Craigslist for workers are quite plentiful…
Also – they’re not generating any sales. That’s a lot of spending during a pandemic, setting up hundreds of booths, for products no one wants – hiring hundreds of people (see craigslist “maga stands”) to sit in the heat. And they’re only locating theses stands in central/south OC, in a major left-right battleground where the communities voted OUT republicans in 2018… Someone is spending, BIG, to put these out there and they are not getting any kind of profit. It’s an RNC campaign donation. A very large one.
Why isn’t the DNC doing the same? Surely they have money. FB ads of Biden aren’t enough…
Same pop-up in Villa Park at Santiago Blvd. in Ralph’s shopping center. 10-12 customers FRI and SAT. No one wearing masks
readers — please identify locations for Trump pop ups around the county so appropriate Democratic clubs can be made aware of their presence; leave a location/address here in the comments
What clubs? Please tell us what clubs people can join, along with a contact, etc.
The DPOC has a list of them
There’s a pop up on the corner of Camino Capistrano and Del Obispo in San Juan Capistrano. I called the city and complained. I talked to a very nice man named Ken and he was very sympathetic and said he hates them too. He also told me that his hands were tied and there was nothing they could do. I told him I have a megaphone and that I was going to stand next to them and yell Biden for President. We both laughed. I do like the idea of having people caring Biden signs around the pop ups.
Okay karen.
Camino Capistrano and Del Obispo in San Juan Capistrano
I culled this off a discussion list, but I’m not completely aware of all the areas, so if there’s duplications…sorry. Also, I’m not sure if they’re staying in these locations. A couple/few were spotted last week vs. this week.

Nobody cares about Biden. Thats why there are no tents. But if there were, I bet you a million dollars, you would be left alone. You liberals are crazy nut jobs. Get a life
I’d take the bet; a bunch of us are looking for the Biden pop ups to buy shirts and hats and swag
Why would you hassle people who vote for Trump? I highly doubt Republicans would hassle you if were the other way around. This anti-American hypocrisy is why a lot of Democrats are leaving the party in droves. A word of advice, assume everything you consume as news has an agenda, and watch/listen to actual sources instead of cherry-picked segments. I did this when I realized the mainstream media was being overtly biased. lo and behold they are owned by 6 major corporations who have much to lose should trump win. #walkaway, facts not feelings!
It’s a brilliant move by the Trump campaign. It’s a great way to raise money without someone having to contribute online with a credit card. It’s also a great way for the campaign to monitor support in California. And I have seen people, including myself, buying stuff at both of the booths I have been to. Trust me, you will not see any Biden pop-ups anywhere. They weren’t smart enough to conceive the idea, and it’s too late now to stock them with merchandise. That’s why you are encouraging people to “hassle” customers. Instead of promoting your own candidate, you are trying to denigrate someone else’s candidate.
There are Biden booths in other parts of Tustin. Its easy to denigrate Trump — I don’t have three hours to list every reason why
Saw your blog, then decided to go out and buy a few hats from them! Thanks for the heads up! Trump 2020!
There is one on Placentia ave near Bastanchury in the city of Placentia. My friend found out she had stage 3 breast cancer and was out protesting this pop up cancer in our neighborhood that very same day – go Keri!!! Also one on imperial near Rose in Yorba Linda. I have seen way too many in this area! More crass commercialism from the crassest, greediest of all! President for sale, to the highest bidder, foreign autocrats given special deals!!!
Please proof read. Your grammar makes you sound like a uneducated conservative. Make us liberals proud…
” And there were about 25 years away from the pop up and getting lots of honks from the traffic making its way East on Irvine Blvd. ”
Everyone needs an editor. Fixed it. Thank you
No money goes to the Trump campaign. Booths run by Calvin Brown and ASS. None of the merchandise is made in USA, manufactured in China and India. Anyone who served in Military knows changing the US flag is disrespectful to our country.
