Long time community leader and Irvine City Council candidate Tammy Kim, announced Tuesday that she ed a total of $43,663 in the first financial report of the campaign. Her impressive fundraising is more than any other candidate running for City Council in Irvine. While one of the other candidates loaned themselves $35,000, Tammy Kim focused on grassroots fundraising and had the largest number of individual donors demonstrating strong community support.
In announcing her fundraising totals, Tammy Kim stated:

As a first time candidate I have worked hard to earn the support of Irvine residents, business owners, working families and community leaders throughout the region. Our message about creating a sustainable future for our city is resonating, and I am excited to enter 2020 with the resources necessary to build our momentum.”
Tammy Kim is a dedicated public servant and community leader. Currently, she serves as the Managing Director of the Korean American Center, which is one of the largest Asian Pacific Islander non-profits in Orange County.
In addition to her non-profit work, Tammy is a successful businesswoman. She spent 20 years as a business executive, where she worked with both local start-up companies and Fortune 500 companies to help them improve business functions. Tammy helped to resolve highly complex business, management, and legal issues within large-scale enterprises. Additionally, she volunteers countless hours in her community as the Chair of the Language Access Committee for the Orange County Registrar of Voters, a member of Irvine’s Complete Count Committee for the 2020 Census, and as an advisor and mentor for the Korean American Young Leaders program.

Sukhee Kang lives in Fullerton. Who cares what he thinks?
Regarding 4th District Resident’s comment, my understanding is former Mayor Kang has a residence in Northwood, Irvine. He is widely respected within Irvine and is credited with many accomplishments during his years on the Council and as Mayor. He significantly raised Irvine’s profile internationally. In Korea, for example, media often covered him as the first Korean-born mayor of a major US city. A Korean university awarded him an honorary doctorate. To answer your specific question, many thousands of people in Irvine are interested in his views on current issues, and he remains quite influential from my observation.
No way, man. He moved to Fullerton to run for State Senate in 2016. He left Irvine because his kids were all grown up and he wanted to downsize, although I don’t remember where I read that.
So he didn’t raise Irvine’s profile internationally, he raised his own and then he moved to Fullerton.
