Irvine, CA Irvine Community Services Commission Chair Lauren Johnson-Norris today announced she is seeking election to the Irvine City Council in November, 2020. Johnson-Norris, who ran a strong campaign in 2018, is also an Irvine attorney, business owner, and mother, who is raising twin girls who attend school in Irvine.
“I’m running for Irvine City Council to be a voice for our neighborhoods and villages and to put Irvine families and residents first,” Johnson-Norris said in a statement. “As chair of the Community Services Commission, I’ve built bipartisan support for better parks, improved childcare facilities for families, and advocated for smarter, more inclusive growth that protects home prices and residents. I’ve devoted my whole life to creating positive change for families, and as your councilmember, I’ll work every day to keep our communities safe and preserve and improve our great quality of life in Irvine.”
In addition to announcing her campaign, Johnson-Norris also said she would be listening to residents and community leaders in the coming weeks and months from every neighborhood and village in Irvine.
“I believe the voice of every resident matters,” Johnson-Norris continued. “That’s why I’m going to ensure that over the next few months, as we kickoff our campaign, we visit every neighborhood and village in Irvine and hear directly from people about the issues that affect them where they are. We have a lot of complex issues to tackle as a city, but it’s important to hear from residents about the issues they deal with daily on the streets outside their homes and in the neighborhoods where they live.”
In 2018, Lauren Johnson-Norris was unanimously elected chair of the Irvine Community Services Commission. During her 2018 campaign, she was the only candidate to release a plan that offered detailed solutions to deal with traffic and development in Irvine. Since then, she has also released a widely acclaimed Climate Action Plan that seeks to combat the effect of climate change locally and preserve Irvine’s precious open spaces.
Lauren Johnson-Norris is an award-winning attorney in Irvine. She has been recognized as a “Super Lawyer Rising Star” and as a “Top Women in Southern California” by Los Angeles Magazine. She is a past-president of the South Orange County Bar Association. She is married to Craig Norris, a U.S Coast Guard Veteran. They have twin girls, Riley and Chloe.
