|ORANGE, CA, 6/11/19 — Today, Eugene Fields, an award-winning journalist, civil rights advocate and college instructor, announced his candidacy for California’s 68th State Assembly District, currently held by Donald Trump supporter Steven Choi.|
“I’m running for State Assembly because the residents of the 68th Assembly District deserve a representative who is responsive to the constituents. Assembly member Choi has done little more than fill a seat during his previous two terms in office. I don’t believe he deserves a third go-round.
“I am extremely concerned about the decline in the quality of life for everyone in the neighborhood I live in, my city, our nation, our state and especially throughout the 68th Assembly District. Homelessness is an unaddressed epidemic throughout several cities in our district. Income inequality is hindering the ability of the middle class to find affordable housing, causing people to have to move out of our district and county.
“As a husband and a father, I am extremely concerned about the world being left to my 3-year-old daughter and all the children and grandchildren of residents of the 68th Assembly District in terms of the quality of education, the need to preserve our environment, creating accessibility to and affordability of quality healthcare, creating access to and the affordability of higher education and providing equal treatment regardless of race, religion or self-identity.”
Eugene Fields is a husband, father and resident of Orange, CA. He is a former co-chair of the OCTA Taxpayer Oversight Committee, monitoring the use of an estimated $13 billion of Measure M funds and ensuring that all revenue collected from Measure M is spent on voter-approved transportation projects. He is an award-winning communications professional for CAIR-LA, a civil rights and advocacy nonprofit and an associate professor at Westcliff University in Irvine.
