A Blue County?

Did you ever think of Orange County in those terms ever?

Katie Porter has pulled ahead of Mimi Walters in CD-45; still lots of votes to count but ones that are trending blue.  Gil Cisneros is within 1,000 votes of Young Kim in CD-39 (no thanks to OC voters) in a tri-county congressional district.  If both win, Orange County will have no Republican representation in Congress.  And for OC Republican congressional candidates — that’s what happens when you don’t hold town halls and only address people and groups who already agree with you.

Ronald Reagan is surely spinning in his grave.  Orange County is where good Republicans go to die?  No.  It’s where great Democrats come to live and thrive.

New Democrats on city councils in Irvine, Anaheim and Aliso Viejo.  Republicans are generally holding on to seats in the State Assembly and State Senate but “Comeback Cottie” Petrie-Norris seems poised to take the Assembly seat in AD-74 retiring Matt Harper.  Fullerton council member Doug Chaffee is 619 votes away from Tim Shaw for 4th District supervisor and just might squeak by.

Still Hungry Democrats?  Former Irvine Mayor Beth Krom will run for Todd Spitzer’s District 3 seat for the Orange County Board of Supervisors; failed Congressional candidate Andy Thornburn, a millionaire from Villa Park who has never held office, is also running as a Democrat.  On the Republican side, Anaheim Council member Kris Murray is in the race and we’re hearing that Irvine Mayor Don Wagner, Assemblyman Steven Choi and former Villa Park City Council member Deborah Pauley are about to lace them up to hold this seat.  But it’s a winner take all special election when it happens.

It’s entirely possible we can have two Democrats on the BoS before it’s all over.

And yes it wasn’t a blue wave but a series of waves — some stronger than others.
