HuffPo reports on Katie Porter’s Status as Domestic Violence Survivor

As we’re late in the game for the June primary, this blog won’t be issuing endorsements and other than publishing press releases from candidates, I’m not inclined to write posts about candidates one way or the other because voters need to do their homework here on their own.  As a disclosure, I’ve made the same monetary donation to the campaigns of David Min, Katie Porter and Brian Forde with the latter two done prior to the CDP convention but I did tell Min I was donating to his campaign prior to the convention and didn’t get around to it until afterwards.

But I have to make an exception for this post.

This is a worthwhile read in the Huffington Post on CD-45 candidate Katie Porter, who besides being a law professor and a mom, is a survivor of domestic abuse.

I was contacted by HuffPo about a week ago about this story, but was unable to collaborate the writer’s questions that my status as a delegate or a Central Committee member was somehow at risk and I was threatened by party officials because I wasn’t, or that someone from the Dave Min campaign had contacted me with cryptic messages that there was something in Porter’s divorce records that might somehow make her an unacceptable candidate because I wasn’t.  My comments didn’t make it in because what I said didn’t fit the narrative, and that’s OK.

Men who abuse their spouses are cowards.  Everything Porter did in this awful situation was to protect her children first and then herself.  It was brave. It was hard. And none of this should impact her position on issues that impact families and voters in CD-45.  No woman should ever have to go through what she did.

It’s also noted in the story that Min’s wife is a national expert on issues of domestic abuse, which would make any sort of whispering campaign against Porter something she wouldn’t stand for at all.  But as far as a whispering campaign goes on this, I’ve heard nothing.  I’ve heard lots of other whispering campaigns from Congressional campaigns throughout OC but they all fall apart for a lack of evidence.

The Min campaign has released these statements in response to the article:

From John Vigna, California Democratic Party Communications Director:

“Delegates to the State Convention recognize when candidates run positive and issue based campaigns, which is why the statewide delegation voted overwhelmingly to endorse Dave Min. Educating delegates about petition signing is a standard practice for campaigns seeking an endorsement and was especially important in this instance due to evidence of widespread fraud in the circulation process conducted by Dave’s opponents that led to several signatures being thrown out by the CDP’s Compliance Review Commission. Over the course of the weekend, the only aggressive behavior I witnessed was from supporters of an opposing campaign.”

From Paige Hutchinson, Campaign Manager:

“Dave won the endorsement of the California Democratic Party by running a positive campaign about the issues. To suggest otherwise is complete and utter nonsense. Dave’s wife Jane is a nationally recognized expert on domestic violence law, Dave and Jane support victims with their hearts, their time and their charitable contributions. Personal attacks and rumors have no place in this campaign.”

  1. If Min already expected you to vote for him at the Convention, which you did, then he wouldn’t have any reason to spread the whisper campaign to your ears.

And of course the CA Dems and Dave’s campaign manager will deny it. They’d be morons to admit it. Almost as big of morons as Dave, the guy who started all this in the first place.

    With love,

    Dishonest Dave
    Keeping Dave Min Honest

    • I voted for Brian Forde. I had extensive conversations with Dave. He never denigrated any of his competitors. And you would not believe the “tips”I get about candidates that Peter out for a lack of proof.

  2. I’ve seen a lot of dirty politics in my time, but this takes the cake. To wit, the fictional “Dave Min whisper campaign” alleging that Dave’s team is spreading rumors about a domestic abuse incident involving Katie Porter.

This HuffingtonPost journalist is building a case from a single response to a comment by the @dishonestdave45 Twitter account March 22nd. While there is nothing connecting the @KevinMa02916090 with the Kevin Matthews of Denver that is a Facebook friend of Dave Min’s wife, it’s the shoddiest of journalism that connects a SINGLE TWEET from an anonymous Twitter account with an FEC report of a campaign contribution.

A search of social media – or even a Google search – shows how ineffective this alleged “whisper campaign” was, since NOTHING ELSE has been posted on social media about this. In fact, if you search for “restraining order katie porter” on Twitter, this is the only tweet you’ll find. You’ll have a tougher time googling the string “Restraining Order Porter” because of the plethora of items on social media about Rob Porter’s inability to get a security clearance. And, yes, there actually is a beer called “Restraining Order Porter”.

    • Nothing you say above discredits Laura Bassett’s article, Gary. Let me spell it out for you:

Kevin Matthews went to college with Dave’s wife. Kevin Matthews donated $2,000 to Dave’s campaign. Kevin Matthews had inside “dirt” on Katie that no one else knew about.

A logical person would assume all three Kevin Matthews above are the same. But not you! You’re way too smart (that’s why you’re voting for Dave, right?). It’s all just coincidental that someone close to the campaign, a donor no less, also tweets anti-Katie innuendos.

That’s an awful strange coincidence, don’t you think?

You also harp on never having heard of the “whisper campaign” and point to the fact that it doesn’t show up on Google as evidence of its nonexistence.

… that is literally the point of a whisper campaign. A whisper campaign is defined as “a method of persuasion in which damaging rumors or innuendo are spread about the target, while the source of the rumors seeks to avoid being detected while spreading them.”

Your defense of Dave is only convincing to yourself and other Minions who have clearly drank the Kool-Aid.

What’s more likely — that an overzealous Min supporter (not too unlike yourself) made a nasty Tweet in order to tear down Min’s opponent? Or that there’s some conspiracy by an award winning journalist to take down your precious leader?

      • –> Kevin Matthews went to college with Dave’s wife. Kevin Matthews donated $2,000 to Dave’s campaign. Kevin Matthews had inside “dirt” on Katie that no one else knew about.

What evidence do either you or Laura Bassett have of this? Just because a name turns up on an FEC report and on an anonymous twitter account what divine insight allows you to connect the dots?

  3. So I am wishing Sunovion (maker) of LATUDA was publically traded in the US!

A quick view of the OJB shows that OC’S newest blogger: “DONOVAN” shares uncanny similarties with bloggers past: John Horner AKA Mike Fox, Matt Cunningham AKA JUBAL, Paul Lucas AKA Henry Lipton, Vern Nelson AKA Anahiem Insider……The list goes on and on…..I am certain Dave Zenger, Ryan Catnor, Sarah had FAKE NAMES TOO.

But, for today, I am interested in DONOVAN. Who I believe to be either:

    1) An alter ego of “Crazy Greg”, consider “Donovan’s” verbose writings, general agreement and statements parallel to “Crazy Greg”.

    2) Another, and this is quite scary, unhinged verbose, uninformed, self-minded fool who believes that somehow, the OC blogesphere is anything OTHER than a medium to debat and communicate.

DONOVAN is, no matter what a fool. Untill he admits, he is not Greg and Vern’s Anaheim BITCH. I suspect that Donovan will disappear after June 5th.

If “Donovan” is not Greg Diamond, than he is just another John Horner, DKMFAN, Jubal or Joe Sipoquiz…..

Come on Greg/Donovan/Vern MAN UP. Use your name……..

Like I do, like I always have.

    • Greg has a post up touting how they do t allow anonymous attacks in comments. He must not read his own blog. It thought it was April Fool’s Day and not Mother’s Day weekend for a second.

    • Wow, stalker creepy. Say “David Vasquez” whadja get yourself for Mother’s Day?

      • Funny thing about stalking. My sister’s kid was involved in the ribbon cutting at THE TRACKS in Greg and Jeff’s beloved conservative bastion of Brea.

I saw none other than Josh Newman, hustling for support, joking about public employees “white legs”. I approached Josh, who seemed recognize me from my participation over many years at the FOOD, I made a Greg Diamond joke and Josh and Dwight Namely, who were very jovial and friendly to one another, laughed pretty hard.

Fact is Dave, err….”Fourth Street”, you are just trying to agitate. Try participation, it’s much more rewarding than painting, beer making or writing Christian poems with other white racists.

    • You have some serious balls.

How was Ahmad’s party? Photos look great.

Almost time for coffee with Ricardo.

  4. As for Vern and Paul “Henry Lipton’s” hit piece on Mike Levin, if I lived in Oceanside, I’d take ANYONE over an accused battered.

But, it just goes to show how a life of drugs and alcohol can cloud judgement.
