Irvine — Leading congressional candidate Katie Porter today made the following statement on the one year anniversary of the passage of the failed Republican healthcare plan:

“One year ago, Mimi Walters celebrated her vote to take away our healthcare with a selfie next to President Trump in the White House Rose Garden,” said Katie Porter.

“Mimi Walters’ disregard for her constituents’ needs is unacceptable — she votes with Trump 98% of the time. This failed bill would have increased healthcare premiums and ended protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

“I am running for congress because I believe that healthcare is a human right.

“In Congress, I will fight for a Medicare-for-all system in which every American has quality, affordable health insurance, and will stand up to any Republican efforts to repeal the ACA.”

Katie earned early endorsements from Senators Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren and was the first House challenger to receive the endorsement from EMILY’s List.

Katie Porter is a consumer protection attorney, UC Irvine Professor of Law, and mother of three who has spent decades taking on the big banks that hurt middle-class families – and winning. Now, she’s taking that fight against powerful special interests to Washington.
