(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton) has had another measure signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown today. Senate Bill (SB) 455 will allow military families moving to California to register their children in any California school district in advance of their Permanent Change of Station order.

“The families of military service members also serve their country,” said Newman. “Since the children of active duty military families are required to move into new schools many times throughout their educational careers, we need to ensure their transition can be as simplified as possible so that they do not fall behind their peers. I thank Governor Brown for understanding the importance of this issue to California’s military families.”

SB 455 will allow all military families to benefit from pre-transfer enrollment by clarifying that children of military parents can transfer to any school district where they will be residing, so long as they provide proof of residence within 10 days of the prescribed date of the Permanent Change of Station order.

Current law allows military families to register their children for school on a preliminary basis in the California school district the base is located in. A significant number of military families, however, take up permanent residence in a school district that is outside their military base. This measure would allow children of military families to pre enroll in any school district, to avoid disruption of the student’s educational progress and undue stress on the family while they make their transition.

State Senator Josh Newman is a veteran of the United States Army and Chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran’s Affairs. The freshman lawmaker has now had three measures signed by Governor Jerry Brown. Senator Newman represents Senate District 29 which includes cities across Orange, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino Counties.

  1. In other news. Assembly Member Sharron Quirk-Silva was sucessful in passing AB 1459 a law protecting peace officers.

Of course this was met by jeers from the cop hating felons at the OJB. Greg’s buddies don’t make it easy for him.

Then again it was reported Donna let Greg gather up a years worth of Vern’s empty liquor bottles, which along with his rePLANET frequent recycler coupon got him enough to buy an ENTIRE table at the Truman Dinner.

Either those are good coupons or Vern had a LOT of empties!
