State Senator Josh Newman to Receive Truman Award; Former Irvine Mayor Beth Krom to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award
ORANGE, Calif. – The Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC) announced that Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), a progressive leader in American politics and Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee, will be the keynote speaker for the 23rd Annual Harry S. Truman Awards Dinner on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Hilton Orange County in Costa Mesa.
The Truman Dinner is the Democratic Party of Orange County’s largest event of the year. 2017 Honorees are:
- Harry S. Truman Award: State Senator Josh Newman
- Samuel L. Gompers Labor Award: Laborers Local 652
- Social Justice Award: Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)
- Lifetime Achievement Award: Former Irvine Mayor and City Councilmember Beth Krom
Organizers say tickets will go fast. “This year’s dinner is twice as big over last year, and a third of tables are already booked,” said Fran Sdao, Chair of the Democratic Party of Orange County. “The response has been immediate and positive.”
Sdao says Harry Truman’s famous grit reflects the persistence of Orange County’s Democratic community. “It was Truman who said ‘if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen,’” said Sdao. “Membership across our Democratic Clubs is double and triple above last year. Official chartered clubs jumped by 25% in a few months, and we’re still growing. Democrats are working harder than ever, while at the same time, we’re seeing Orange County’s Republican Congressional Representatives skip their own town halls.”
The 2017 Truman Dinner helps provide critical support for new platforms including GRO-DPOC, an innovative new grassroots organizing program targeting hundreds of Orange County’s most vulnerable precincts covering Congressional, State and local races.
Individual Tickets are $160. For complete ticket, sponsorship and program ad information please go to: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/trumantickets2017.
