Brea, CA – Former Anaheim City Councilmember Lorri Galloway announced her endorsement of Joe Kerr’s campaign for Orange County Supervisor today. Galloway joins a growing list of local leaders rallying around Kerr, which already includes Congressman Lou Correa and State Assemblymember Tom Daly.

“Joe Kerr is an effective problem solver who will bring new energy and new ideas to county government,” said Galloway. “Joe’s experiences, as both a fire captain and an advocate for first responders, will serve him well on the board. I am excited to announce my endorsement of his campaign.”

Lorri Galloway served on the Anaheim City Council between 2004 and 2012. She is the founder and Executive Director of The Eli Home, which provides shelter for abused children and their mothers.

Joe Kerr is a second-generation professional firefighter who served as a fire captain with the Orange County Fire Authority and Orange County Fire Department for over 25 years. He was the first President of the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association, the former Vice President of the California Professional Firefighters, as well as a former Vice President of the Orange County Central Labor Council (AFL-CIO).

Joe was named Fireman of the Year by the Cypress Fire Department in 1979, Overachiever of the Year by the Orange County Firemen’s Association in 1984, and Fire Captain of the Year by the Orange County Fire Department in 1986. In 1981, he was given a Certificate of Merit from the Orange County Board of Supervisors for his role in responding to the Air California jetliner crash at John Wayne Airport. He was also presented with the Courage Under Fire Award in 1999 for rescuing and reviving a non-breathing occupant who was trapped in a residential structure fire.

After retiring in 2012, Joe received numerous awards and recognitions for helping to save the life of a baby who was drowning and had stopped breathing in a swimming pool.   Joe’s history of community service includes having served as an advisor to the Board of the Orange County Foundation for Oncology, Children and Families (OCF-OCF).   Joe grew up in La Habra and Cypress. He and his wife, China, are the proud parents of a 13-year-old son.

  1. We ate dinner at Yen Ching the great Chinese reasturaunt next to the old Holy Family “Cathedral” in Orange last night and ran smack dab into 150 or so Young Kim supporters and The former assembly woman herself.

The guest speakers: Rosario Marin and Charlie Zhang, the founder of Pick Up Stix. All in all I counted six non asians, this event was who’s who of Korean power brokers.

  2. My only direct contact with local firefighters is when they took Lorri Galloway, her aid, and me to dinner at Ruth Chris Steak House in Washington DC and lobbied her for something or other. We were all their on a lobby junket for the bullet train. LOL. I guess I have Anaheim tax payers to thank for all that lovelyness. I was pretty much a kid at the time, but it felt wrong. Perhaps Ms. Kim can make the political/lobbying practices of firefighters an issue during the campaign. I think people in the district would be surprised to hear the truth; it’s pretty messed up…

    • Daniel — your struggles with truth and credibility give me pause when I review your comments. The lobbying practices of almost any organization are the same. Contact with political leaders and a pitch for their point of view. I’m not sure how an Anaheim City Council member impacts a state project of a bullet train, but you believe what you need to OK?

      • I think everyone in Orange County politics struggles with the truth, in one way or another. haha.

And while credibility is nothing but relative, I am confident that I will ultimately come out on top on that front.

I take your point about general lobbying practices to heart. I would just point out that some organizations depend on tax dollars to lobby for more tax dollars. Perhaps we need to made some budget adjustments to limit such activities. I would rather spend the money on housing or on actual solutions to homelessness, as oppose to vanity projects. I guess its just a matter of fairness and priorities.

And I think it is fairly obvious, at least to a person with your information and intellect, why bullet train backers would be interested in an Anaheim City Councilwoman.

Thank you for your response and criticism, I am working on being a better advocate and your efforts help.
