Santa Ana, CA (May 23, 2017) — The Orange County Board of Supervisors is now accepting applications for commissioners for the County’s Campaign Finance and Ethics Commission.
The Commission will consist of five appointed members, one appointment by each Supervisor. Commissioners shall serve terms up to three years and may not serve more than two full terms. Proposed commissioners must be confirmed by a majority vote of the Board
“We encourage those who are interested in contributing to the Ethics Commission to apply,” said Chairwoman Michelle Steel, Second District Supervisor.
On June 7, 2016 the voters of the County of Orange established a Campaign Finance and Ethics Commission. The purpose of the Commission is to provide oversight of the County’s Campaign Reform Ordinance, Lobbyist Registration and Reporting Ordinance, the Gift Ban Ordinance and Sections 6 and 9 of the County Code of Ethics and Commitment to Public Service (“Code of Ethics”). Ancillary to these purposes, the Commission will ensure that ethics training is provided to newly elected and appointed County officials in those areas for which the Commission has training responsibility.
The Board selected Denah Hoard as the Executive Director of the Office of Campaign Finance and Ethics Commission. Hoard started on April 10, 2017, and said, “I look forward to working with the commissioners to accomplish the duties set before us by the Board and the voters.”
The members of the Commission will serve without compensation but will receive reimbursement for travel and other expenses incurred in the performance of their official duties according to the Board of Supervisors policy. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until all five seats are filled.
