Lt. Governor Newsom Once Again Demonstrates Bold Leadership by Endorsing Ellis for CDP Chair

Kimberly Ellis

OAKLAND, Calif. (May 16, 2017): Kimberly Ellis is proud to announce the endorsement of Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, the first statewide officer to weigh in on endorsements since early last year.

In an issued statement, Newsom lauded Ellis and her leadership abilities. “I’ve watched the race closely and believe that Kimberly has demonstrated she has what it takes to do the job at a critical time in our history. She’s shown an outstanding ability to organize, energize the grassroots and advance reform in our Party. I’ve known Kimberly for years and have especially been impressed with the way she grew Emerge California. She’s built a track record of supporting, training, and inspiring Democratic women to run for office.”

“I’m so incredibly proud to have the Lieutenant Governor’s endorsement. We’ve shown that the Central Committee and ADem delegates believe in our vision. The natural question has always been will our elected officials also support our shared vision for a new path forward,” said Ellis. “The Lieutenant Governor has once again demonstrated bold leadership, answered that question for us and joins other key leaders like Assistant Majority Leader Bonta, State Senator Mitchell and Congresswoman Speier.”

So how is this showing bold leadership when Lt. Governor Newsom endorsed both Ellis and Bauman?

its a dual endorsement; hedging his bets……its actually weak leadership, not bold

This makes Newsom look wishy washy. There are many things I like about Newsom, but I think if he’s under pressure he’ll throw people under the bus.

I hope Bauman wins as he is the best qualified and has the most experience. As for Bernie, I wish he would go away. California is already solidly Democratic so why is he creating conflict here? That’s the last thing we need right now. I don’t trust him at all.

Another reason to support the straight-forward and ethical John Chiang for California governor.

I’d think the Ellis people were unaware if the dual endorsement. This flowery language in a press release is actually embarrassing. It makes her look dumb.
