Buena Park, CA – Small Business Owner and former Chemistry teacher Phil Janowicz today announced his campaign has raised over $100,000 in his bid for the 39th Congressional District.
Janowicz announced his campaign 12 days ago at California State University Fullerton (CSUF), where he used to teach. Since that announcement he has been meeting residents throughout the district and growing his support. The fundraising pace is unprecedented for a challenger in this district.
“I’m very proud of the early support my campaign has received so far,” Janowicz stated. “The momentum we are building right now ensures that we will have the resources necessary to wage a competitive campaign against a longtime incumbent like Ed Royce. All of these donations have come from individuals, not PACs or special interests, and this proves that there is a real passion to flip the 39th District next year. I promise that no one will work harder to ensure that this momentum for change becomes a reality in 2018.”
Phil Janowicz is President and CEO of Quill & Abacus, an education consulting firm focused on narrowing the opportunity gap for first-generation and low-income students. He formerly taught chemistry at CSUF. There, he founded the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program for Chemistry, which provides extra instruction, mentoring, and support for students. Phil lives in Buena Park with his wife, Angela, a native of Rowland Heights and an English Teacher at Fullerton College. They have two dogs, Molly and Jasmine and a cat named Arya.

About CA-39: The California 39th Congressional District is a top pickup opportunity for Democrats in 2018. Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton won the district with a majority of the vote by 8.6 points. Like the rest of Southern California and Orange County, the Republican registration advantage has shrunk dramatically since the district was drawn in 2011 and is now under 2 points. The Cook Political Report recently changed the rating of the district from “Likely” Republican to “Lean” Republican following Ed Royce’s vote on the American Healthcare Act (AHCA).
