Buena Park, CA – Orange County business owner and former teacher Phil Janowicz today announced his campaign for Congress in California’s 39th District, challenging 25 year career politician Congressman Ed Royce.
In announcing his campaign, Mr. Janowicz released the following statement:
“People have become disgusted by the current state of our politics in Washington, DC. Partisanship and gridlock, never-ending conflict, and promises to ‘drain the swamp’ that are broken as quickly as they are made. Our country and our communities deserve better.
“I believe that we can still accomplish great things in this country. It takes more than just a Republican or just a Democrat to ensure a child has access to a good education, someone has a job with a livable wage, or a street gets repaired. It takes people working together, regardless of party, to find common-sense solutions to our nation’s challenges.
“Politicians like Ed Royce have had 25 years to make Washington work better. Instead, Congress is overrun by special interests and partisanship. And rather than stand up to the divisive policies and reckless rhetoric of the Trump Administration, Congressman Royce votes in lock-step with Trump 96% of the time. We need fresh leadership and our district needs someone who will stand up to special interests and not be afraid to hold Trump accountable.
“I’m running for congress to be a champion for the community I love and I will put the needs and concerns of our district’s residents over loyalty to party leadership and Washington interests. I look forward to listening to your ideas as we begin this journey together and I hope you will join with me today. Visit our website at www.philforhouse.com and see how you can get involved.”
Phil Janowicz is President and CEO of Quill & Abacus, an education consulting firm focused on narrowing the opportunity gap for first-generation and low-income students. He is also a former chemistry teacher who taught as a professor at California State University Fullerton (CSUF). There, he founded the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program for Chemistry, which provides extra instruction, mentoring, and support for students. His commitment to his students and his innovative teaching style led him to be honored with the Sony Electronics Award for Innovative Teaching with Technology.
After seeing his students struggle to balance full-time schooling with the high-cost and pressures of basic necessities, Phil realized he could draw more attention to the important issues and find better solutions through public service. Phil is dedicated to improving affordability and increasing access to both education and healthcare. Like many others, it was through coverage provided by the Affordable Care Act that allowed him and his wife to pursue entrepreneurship. He is committed to working to ensure everyone has the same opportunities to succeed.
Phil Janowicz currently lives in Buena Park with his wife, Angela, a native of Rowland Heights and an English Teacher at Fullerton College. They have two dogs, Molly and Jasmine and a cat named Arya.

About CA-39: The California 39th Congressional District is a top pickup opportunity for Democrats in 2018. Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton won the district with a majority of the vote by 8.6 points. Like the rest of Southern California and Orange County, the Republican registration advantage has shrunk dramatically since the district was drawn in 2011 and is now under 2 points, with new Democratic voters and Independents being added to the rolls everyday.
