Longtime Democratic activist and friend of this blog Claudio Gallegos has been named Interim District Director for Congressman Lou Correa’s office in Santa Ana.
Few non-elected know Santa Ana and Anaheim like Gallegos does and it’s a smart and solid hire for Correa. Gallegos was one of Correa’s earliest supporters during Correa’s initial runs for office.
Gallegos has made a strong name for himself managing campaigns of several candidates in the November 2016 election and he is Orange County’s smartest and most detail-oriented demographer when it comes to putting together district maps. He played a key role in working with Oscar Reyes on “The People’s Map” in Anaheim as well as assistance to Garden Grove Council member Kim Nguyen’s districting map for Garden Grove.
Gallegos blogged for the OrangeJuiceBlog before founding SunnyD which TheLiberalOC acquired several years ago. He blogged for us until a legal assistant’s job made blogging close to impossible.
Claudio is married with two kids and resides in Santa Ana. He is an asset to the Democratic Party and Orange County’s Latino community. We offer our congratulations and best wishes for his success.
Diamond will complain Gallegos was the true author of the Reyes map while denying he was true author of chuchua’s 12 maps
Smart of you to be anonymous, given your ignorance..
Claudio “advised” Reyes heavily enough after Reyes’s ill-fated first submission to warrant primary authorship. Let’s just say that I have this on very good authority.
Brian’s maps were collaborative with me (with input from a few others. He knows an enormous amount about Anaheim and its neighborhoods; I know how to use mapping software and enjoy this sort of logical and mathematical puzzle. But there are plenty of people in the latter category and not so many in the former. So we’d talk, I’d propose something, and he’d look at it and tell me what had to be changed, based, for example, on locations for likely new development — not just what was proposed, but what was likely.
So I would not claim to be “the true author” at all — it was a productive collaboration between us — and useful in nailing down the most critical mischief-minimizing decision: that Euclid as the proper boundary for the western third of the city. (It also gave Brian standing to sue, which I didn’t want, had doing so been necessary — as seemed likely at times.)
Anonymous people (and a few ignorant ones) seem to enjoy selling Brian short intellectually. The lack of pushback on this should be embarrassing to this blog. I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it here, and I’ll bet that Cynthia Ward would agree: most of the ideas that have led to most of the *governmental reform* activism in Anaheim over the past five years — other than (though compatible with) what Jose Moreno and Amin David and those around him have done — has initiated with Brian calling it to people’s attention to something and explaining its significance. Not from me, usually not even Cynthia or others: from Brian.
Brian reads and hears things about what goes on in the City that other people don’t — he’s welcome in places that others of us aren’t and gets to talk to people that others of us don’t — and he has such a wealth of relevant experience that he sees the significance of things, both on the horizon and breaking on a given day, that others don’t.
My guess is that, a couple of decades from now, this blog’s management may have a different view than it currently demonstrates of the fairness of slagging an elderly guy just to make cheap political points. Sadly, Brian won’t likely still be here for an apology, but plenty of people know the truth.
so no “Congratualtions Claudio” message at all? It’s all about you and a man who keeps running for office and loses. You seem to forget there’s significant video of you at the map meetings and you’re the one doing all the talking while Chuchua just sits there. I’m sure this is a shock to you, but I don’t put a lot of faith in things you profess to know so much about.
BTW, I had a nice lunch at Chumley’s in NYC two weekends ago with my daughter and my old college roommate and his daughter; legendary speakeasy, closed for years due to structural damage but it’s since re-opened as a nice restaurant. From New York Magazine: The rich history of Chumley’s precedes its latest iteration. Opened during Prohibition, in 1922, by the activist Lee Chumley, the bar was a reliable place to get a stiff drink for writers including Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Willa Cather, and Dylan Thomas. It even has its own contribution to the lexicon, as the birthplace of the term “eighty-sixed,” derived from the back door at 86 Bedford Street, through which patrons were advised to skedaddle when the police were en route.
I tried to find a T-shirt for you, but they don’t sell them.
And once again, he wonders why people call him “Crazy Greg”!
No one will work harder.
Congratulations Claudio!
We’re poles about politically, but Claudio is top-notch. Smart hire by Correa.
Jesus Diamond. Just congratulation Claudio And Shut the F#*k up. You’re such an attention whore. If you spent as much time on your law practice as you do on Anaheim, you could pay own rent on your own
Happy Paul Lucas holiday. 4/20. When is the holiday for Prison salad tossing?
