ON TAX DAY, QUIRK-SILVA SAYS TAXPAYERS HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW LEADERS ARE PAYING THEIR FAIR SHARE;

Sharon Quirk-Silva

FULLERTON, CA—Classroom teacher and 65th Assembly District candidate Sharon Quirk-Silva today released her tax returns to the media citing the belief that open, transparent government starts with having leaders who are open and transparent in their own financial dealings.

“Taxpayers need to know that elected leaders are playing by the same rules they are and paying their fair share,” said Quirk-Silva. “We can only be taken seriously as keepers of taxpayer money if we show we’re invested as much as everyone else.

“That’s why I’m opening up my personal finances for public scrutiny. It is my hope that my opponent, Young Kim, will join me in this effort to raise people’s confidence in their elected officials, and release her taxes as well.”

Quirk-Silva released five years of tax returns spanning 2011 thru 2015. She and her husband and fellow teacher, Jesus Silva, file jointly. The couple released their entire returns. The only information withheld pertained to personal information such as social security numbers and the names of their children.

Quirk-Silva currently teaches 3rd grade fulltime and has spent 30 years teaching in the Fullerton School District. She is the former Mayor of Fullerton and served in the Assembly from 2012-2014.

The 65th Assembly District includes Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, La Palma, Stanton and most of West Anaheim.

  1. Yeah, SQS’ peeps called me first but, much as I like Sharon, I had a hard time fashioning this into something newsworthy, without knowing at least a bit about what they were suggesting about Young Kim.

    Also I did owe more in taxes than I’m used to, since this has been a pretty successful year.

    • Vern, they called you first? Ahhh how sweet. You didn’t see that SQS is seeking the same sort of transparency from her opponent as she’s offering. When do you think Bernie will release his taxes? Good for you that you had a good year

  2. Interesting campaign stunt. I’m sure SQS and her handlers are thrilled that this effort switched focus to you two and your silly blog wars in just two comments. It’s like watching a couple of third grade playground bullies. Grow up already!
    Where is the link to the actual tax returns? That is kind of the point of the press release
