“I strongly support President Obama’s nomination of Justice Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court. Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley should immediately set a hearing date so that Senators may fulfill their Constitutional duty.
“Every day that Senate Republicans do not take action, they prove that they are more interested in playing politics rather than fulfilling their responsibility to the American people.
“Republican Senate leaders say they want the next President to select a nominee, in the hope that there will be a Republican President. Are they really holding up this nomination so that their Party’s almost certain presidential candidate, Donald Trump, will be the one who picks the next Supreme Court Justice?
“Our current President has made an outstanding choice in Justice Merrick Garland, who has received Republican support in his past confirmations. He is balanced, fair, and incredibly qualified to be a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.”
