Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, who’s running for US Senate and will surrender her seat to one of four Democratic candidates, attended a house party for Garden Grove Mayor Bao Nguyen in North Hollywood this past weekend at the home of LA County Democratic Party Chair Eric C. Bauman. There are cozy photos of the candidates which have led many to speculate Sanchez is endorsing Nguyen for her seat in Congress. Two blogs in OC, OCPolitics and NewSantaAna, have even reported Sanchez recruited Nguyen to run for her seat.
The Sanchez for Senate campaign just threw a bucket of cold water on this speculation.
“Rep. Sanchez is not endorsing any candidate in the Congressional race,” said Luis Vizcaino, a spokesman for the Sanchez for Senate campaign. “She was in Los Angeles for a morning event and was invited to stop by the event hosted by the LA County Chair. The Congresswoman will continue to remain neutral.”
As for speculation Sanchez helped recruit Nguyen in the race, Vizcaino was brief. “No,” he said.
In her remarks at the Party, Sanchez urged those assembled to support Nguyen which can best be described as preaching to the choir and not an endorsement. Those assembled already support Nguyen’s campaign for Congress.
The bigger question many Democrats have in OC is why Bauman hosted a party for a Congressional seat which three other Democrats running when Bauman is a candidate for the state party chair. There’s considerable chatter hosting the party hurts Bauman with a number of Democrats in OC more than helps him.
There has always been an insestuous relationship between the two county party groups. OC even hired a LACDP official a few years back before she bailed back to Long Beach.
The only thing I know about Bauman is he thinks Greg Diamond is an a$$hole, which I think we can all agree. Bauman does seem close to Diamonds concuno (Brother in law), which again proves ” you can’t pick your family”!
FWIW – I too heard Loretta coaxed Bao into the race, and that was from her staffer!
Since when is OC Politics and New Santa Ana “two blogs?” Just write “Pedroza thinks…”
Two blogs. Same story reported in two different days.
Dumb. Same dude, same story. I’d be surprised if he didn’t put it on his “New Anaheim” as well.
Missed you at Truman you smelly bastard. I was wearing a pink bow tie.
The biggest chuckle I had all night was a Greg Diamond/Todd Spitzer joke from a Santa Ana Councilperson. Funny at the time, if Supervisor Spitzer (weapon in hand) needed to protect the crowd from an unhinged blogger (not that far-fetched) that would be HORRIBLE.
This is the regard in which Greg Diamond is held. Save for that barb. I don’t think anyone knew who was nor cared.
