Drinking Liberally needs a new home since Memphis closed in Santa Ana. It briefly moved to another Santa Ana establishment but that closed too. It’s been way too long, so on a lark, we’re taking this show on the road to Skosh Monahan’s in Costa Mesa tonight around 8:45 p.m.
Skosh’s is owned and operated by Costa Mesa Council member Gary Monahan. A few month’s back, Gary posted something on Facebook about if a business owner’s politics would influence a consumer’s decision to patronize said business. I viewed it as an invitation and went there last Veteran’s Day. Neither Gary or I are going to change each other’s minds but we did have a terrific conversation about local politics.
So, we’re going back. I’ve asked some of the DL regulars to join me and I think we’ll have a few. Some won’t due to ties with local unions doing battle in Costa Mesa. Others have said that don’t want any of their money to go into Gary’s pocket.
My view is — for very little money — I’m going to get served a beverage and a snack by a conservative Republican. And as long as he doesn’t stick his thumb in my glass when carrying it over, I’ll be OK with it.
Monahan has invited some 600 people to this on Facebook and I think we’re going to have a decent crowd. I’m not sure about the number of Lefties coming, so please come by. The spirit of the event is to relax and talk local politics without anyone getting ready for a bar room brawl.

I wish more Liberals in Costa Mesa had your command of issues, so we could debate the issues, not the person.
Most Costa Mesa Liberals debate the person and personality … poorly.

If you are going to take DL on the road, you really need to stop at the legendary (yes, I mean, legendary) Nieuport 17 before it closes. Their bar will host a very nice DL.
