Chris Prevatt and I attended the sold out Truman Dinner Sunday at the Anaheim Sheraton. (Link to Photo Slideshow) It was an awesome event and normally, the Monday after gives us a chance to review the local press coverage of the event and comment on whether or not the coverage is fair or unfair.  If there’s any question that Orange County’s media favors Republicans, the lack of coverage from the Truman dinner is a signed confession.  No coverage from the OC Register.  No coverage from the OC Weekly.  No coverage from the LA Times or Daily Pilot.  Nothing from KOCE.  Nothing from the Voice of OC.  As far as OC’s political blogsphere goes, this story is it. The Party issued a media advisory and its a damn shame no one bothered to show up because the Truman dinner had hundreds of people from all over the county on hand to hear Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz deliver an exceptional keynote address.  You’d think that just for the opportunity to meet and greet OC’s many elected Democrats and a free meal would be a compelling draw for the local media would be enough to have them show up and acknowledge our expanding ranks of members, candidates and elected officials, but no… There is a major Party in Orange County that is turning this once solid red county very purple and parts of it very blue.  It’s a shame our local media ignores it.

  1. The Truman Dinner, you mean that guy who dropped the A-Bomb on Japan?
    Anyway…
I learned (or wanted to learn) the hard way, but anyone associated with, or relying on, Greg Diamond and OrangeJuiceBlog needs to get far, far, away from that operation.
Greg Diamond, who unquestionably is in charge of that website, is 100% percent for sale. Moreover, he will exploit anyone and anything to make a buck or get attention. (Not that he is particularly good at it.)
Most recently, Diamond and his latest client Mayor Tom Tait are working to humiliate and degrade the LGBT community along with the faithful. (Not to suggest they are mutually exclusive.) If you know this and claim to be an advocate for either group, SHAME ON YOU for remaining silent. Yes, that means you Jeff Letourneau. Prove that you are not a total disgrace to everything which your career purportedly stood for… PATHETIC!!!

    • Daniel,

I will not let such an attack on Jeff go answered. I have known Jeff since 1987 when we both joined the board of the Gay and Lesbian Center of Orange County at the same time in March 1988, how old were you then? Jeff’s commitment to the LGBT community is well documented and in many cases he has led the way in the progress of LGBT civil rights in Orange County and the State of California.

It would be truly a unique feat for you to surpass his lifetime of achievement and contribution to the LGBT community. Rather than criticize the actions or alleged inaction of others, maybe you should strive to be one tenth the advocate and supporter of the LGBT community that Jeff has been. When you get there, then maybe you will have license to be critical.

        • Daniel,

Let me clarify. You have no standing to be critical as you have no level of knowledge to base that criticism upon. You are indeed free to speak, you are equally free to be an idiot. It looks like you have both of those skills nailed down sufficiently.

When you have done one-tenth of what Jeff has done to support the LGBT community and further LGBT civil rights, I’ll be more than willing to discuss your criticisms of Jeff.

    • Mr. Sterling:
These comments represent rambling, unorganized and irrational thought, not reflective thought. You promote yourself as a talented lawyer with a stellar educational pedigree and strong writing skills. These attributes certainly are not reflected in your writing here.
I will second the comments of Mr. Prevatt regarding Mr. Letourneau, who is a stellar reflection of what a true community activist should be. He and his record are beyond reproach, and your insinuation that he would do anything to demean, dishonor, or “humiliate and degrade” the LGBT community is both shameful and without any foundation. I issue the same challenge to you as I repeatedly make to Mr. C.: elevate your discourse by making a case of facts and reason, not baseless ad hominem attacks. You shame your profession.

        • Daniel,

OC does not owe you a job. Since you’re a Republican I would think you would know that. Trylooking for a job and paying your dues. As a newbie attorney, you must climb up the ladder. Arrogance and sass won’t get you a job, or up any ladders. Maybe your reputation precedes you.

I guess no one has taught you the realities of Republicanism. Let me simplify some of them for you.

          1. You are on your own.
          2. If you need help, don’t ask a Republican.
          3. If you’re not rich, you aren’t working hard enough.
          4. If you’re gay you must hide that fact, preferably in a closet. Just ask Dana Rohrabacher.

I learned all of these things when I was a young Republican about your age. I then grew up and became a Democrat.

          • Apart from politics, I’m an absolute treat to be around. Otherwise, my sassy attitude is the answer, not the problem.

While I took all of what you said to heart, I am hoping to urge people in OC, all those rich people you love (wink), to invest in our local media. Looking for work is one thing, but I’ve set myself on a mission to build the world I desire.

This is why parents want there kids to go to UCLA and not Berkeley (Cal) lol. Alums from the latter tend to depart with some pretty quixotic aspirations.

    • Daniel…As I have no idea what you are talking about since I don’t read the blogs, including Greg’s, I will leave you just one though from one of my favorite musical; Man of La Mancha. ” Whether the stone hits the pitcher, or the pitcher hits the stone, it’s sure to be bad for the pitcher.”

  2. Thank you again for validating my decision to suspend my subscription to that weekly-reader of a paper, the “Orange County Register.” If I want to know whether Biff made the JV swim squad at Corona del Mar high, that’s the paper for me. If I want anything approaching insightful, critical and balanced reporting and political coverage–not so much.

  3. Daniel, you are woefully ignorant of the First Amendment. That pertains to government not being able to censor speech. You threw out some charges. Back them up with facts please

    • Not what I was getting at but…

The First Amendment is about more than censorship. It is about the free flow of ideas, a market place where word are put to their only test. It is about freedom of consciousness. It is about a thriving press capable of educating/aiding a public being bombarded with official information dictated by governing elites. It goes to the heart of what makes a man or woman a free person. Its inclusion at the top of the Bill of Rights suggests it is critical and worthy of fierce protection. It’s actually pretty sweet!

  4. Don’t argue with Lamb you guys. Nobody knows what he’s talking about. Not one sentence makes sense.

I swear to God there’s something in the water up in Anaheim. I bring my own bottle of Evian when I venture north of Katella.

  5. Notice how several people come to Jeff’s defense. I wonder why no one did so for Diamond?

For a guy who was too “busy” attend, he somehow found time to write a three thousand word blog piece about another blog piece.

    Keep going Greg!

    • Well, I’ll comment in more detail. Lamb wrote: “Greg Diamond… is 100% percent for sale. Moreover, he will exploit anyone and anything to make a buck or get attention…. Most recently, Diamond and his latest client Mayor Tom Tait are working to humiliate and degrade the LGBT community along with the faithful. ”

WTF is he talking about? NOBODY KNOWS. Lamb is coocoo for cocopuffs. Diamond defended.

      • I dare Vern Nelson to discuss what he writes in public. It would be interesting because I don’t think he ACTUALLY (you here that Los Amigos) writes anything. For that matter, I’d like to see anyone at orangejuiceblog talk about issues in public. Greg Diamond is a criminal. It is about time the good people of OC fight back!

      • And yet, Mr. lamb blogged for you for months and got lots of praise from your crew of Zenger, Ward and Cantor…could it have been bad judgement on your part Vern?

        • And he also got criticism from me — and when his true colors as a blogger were undeniable I shoved him out of an airlock.

So does this mean that we get to ask Chris what he thinks of your recent doings?

      • Daniel is just taking advantage of being judgment-proof. None of that’s true, but if I were to sue someone for libel it would be someone wealthier and less likely to collapse into a mewling ball. I’m way too sentimental.

    • That piece didn’t get (too much) in the way of my trial prep. I usually blog at times when I’m too tired to do legal analysis and such. (Now you know my secret — you fake-named coward.) And I compose and type really fast.

      • So, If the “fake named” coward above, who by all appearances uses his real name, what does it say about the cowards, that make up CATER?

Why in a city of 400,000 do we only know the names of TWO yes 2 people. Fact is, this is a small time money grab (attempt).

WHERE ARE THOSE COWARDLY CATER MEMBERS???

  6. Seven different needlepoint avatars from Daniel Lamb in seven comments. Time for our host to attack Anton Marc again for allegedly using multiple accounts.

I have no idea whatsoever what Daniel is talking about. Knowing of his personal struggles this year — documentation of the worst of which someone provided me in what I take was the mistaken belief that I’d be likely to publish it — I’m less likely than normal to give him whatever thrashing he warrants here.

I did meet him once when he requested career advice. I gave him a good suggestion, a line of practice that I would not engage in myself, not realizing that he either was or would soon be no longer licensed to practice law; to my knowledge he didn’t follow it. Before learning of his status with the bar, I also suggested him to at least two other people for possible work. So I had at least tried to help him get some traction in starting his career. By that point, he very likely couldn’t practice. The one thing I wouldn’t consider was to bring him on with CATER, for reasons that I think should be pretty bleeding obvious.

I presume that Daniel thinks that he can gain some credit within the OCGOP by bashing me in this way. Fine; whatever. Maybe he can; it’s fine with me, as he’d be a pretty easy opponent to face. When I’ve known people like him in the past, I’ve on occasion gotten an AA-style apology letter in the past; I don’t wish him ill, but if and when that day comes he’s not going to get an answer to that letter.

  7. I met with Greg a while back because I was trying to figure out the real story in Anaheim. Anyone following my internet presence knows that to be the truth. For that reason, I did have a terrible year. For that reason, I was deliberately snubbed by Team Tait and CATER (which is actually one entity).

Mr. Diamond is free to publish whatever, ultimately, it will be testimony to my efforts and to my attempted take down.

You know why Diamond and crew are so stupid? They don’t appreciate their audience; probably because that would frustrate their marketing. I have faith in whoever reads down this far… Anyone who does will be able to see through Diamond, Cynthia Ward, “Ryan Canter” and Tait.

I will not be intimated by loser catfish.

    • Excellent post DANIEL LAMB.

You are on point with your analysis of “I AM SMARTER THAN YOU” Greg Diamond.

The OJB has about eight regular posters and no more than twenty total. To think that this big mouth, offensive glutton is somehow helping his chosen candidates.

    • Our meeting was not about Anaheim. You wanted advice on looking for work. there was no shame in that. The shame is in lying about it now. I have no desire to look up and publish your written communications, but they are there.

I’ll tell you what: you have your grandmother stake you in a counterclaim against me for slander. To keep in cheap, we can stipulate to no or minimal discovery on each side. I’ll sue you, you can sue me, and we’ll figure out who’s telling the truth.

Get help, Daniel. The people you are trying to suck up to will never be your friends.

        • Not discussing what we both know I could discuss here is an act of Anaheimian kindness, Daniel.

I understand that you’re trying to insert yourself into the political process as a kind of player here in the pre-election weeks, but as you only seem to have piqued the interest of our host, it’s not working well. For the record, you were never party to inside knowledge of CATER’s operations.

As for that career advice: it was a good idea and you should have done it. But at the time, I had thought that you would still be licensed to practice law.

Here’s some other good advice, and (unlike our host when he says this) I do mean this kindly: Get Help. On the back of your bar card (your old one), you should be able to find the number for the Lawyer Assistance Program. It’s a very good service, for which I imagine you may still be eligible. Use it.

      • There are plenty of ways to… um… encourage active cooperation in a campaign. I have a feeling you know of such things Dan. That is one reason why I am highly skeptical of campaign finance laws. Putting someone in the slammer for giving a politician too much money doesn’t seem to get to the root of the problem of oligarchy.

But I agree, we need more transparency. I have been urging Team Tait to submit to an audit for weeks. And that includes opening the books of consultants all the way down the line… No wonder I am having a hard time making friends in OC politics. lol

BTW, I think it is hard for people to believe that I went to Greg for career advice… Reputation proceeding itself as it were…

      • Sorry, didn’t answer your question.

As far as I know, there are only two members of CATER, Greg (D?) and Cynthia Ward(R?). A possible third, based on my observations, is Brian Chuchua, (sp?).

I agree with your general assertion that CATER is a farce, but I think it is more than just a money grab. CATER actively worked to prevent a real contest for the political establishment in Anaheim, again, based on my observations. Thanks in part to Greg, there is no room for good faith activism in Anaheim.

      • “Team Tait” does not fund CATER, period.

While we shield our donors as allowed by law — and one look at the vitriol from the anonymous commenters allowed on the blogs, this one included, should make it very clear why we do so — most of what runs CATER is people willing to work for deferred and speculative income, such as me, as well as outright volunteers.

        • whatever you say Mr. Transparency; I think the taxpayers of Anaheim would like to know who’s on the roster defending their interests. The city has 330,000 residents. CATER has two known members. Just how does one volunteer to be a member of CATER?

        • Compared to OJblog, I get ten times more readers through my Facebook platforms. Just ask Voice of OC how many referrals it got from my work over the weekend; I always go on the offensive on holidays and weekends… It encourages my opponents to communicate electronically.

So provided CATER is as much a sham as Team Tait, and it is, how do the financial companies funding the convention center bond come into play? They are starting to look stupid or criminal.

And Greg, you are nothing more than a bully. I know I shouldn’t, but I am enjoying watching the CATER-Tait team self-destruct. You can call it deferred gratification.

        • For somebody that complains incesstently about anonymous commenters, don’t you find it ironic that CATER is an organization made up almost entirely of anonimity?

In other words it’s TERRIBLE to post anonymously on the internet, but it’s OK to sue a city……..

    • What is with this weird misspelling of Ryan’s name, and sticking it in quotes? It’s getting really irritating. Can you at least explain what you’re trying to imply? Are you suggesting our handsome, large-nosed young conservative friend from Fullerton doesn’t really exist?

  8. I agree with you that the County is going to be purple in 10 to 15 years. The demographics are changing. OC doesn’t appeal to new white Republicans since its expensive and they tend to locate to Texas and so forth where its cheaper to buy a house and the minorities are growing which tend to be more Democratic. You point this out and you are call a racists. The US Census is now saying that whites without a Spanish surname are dying out and only gain because of immigration from Eastern Europe and Arab Countries. Kansas is now shifting from hardcore right after Bronbacks tax cuts but Kansas in the red and Texas will in two years laid off some of the oil workers since there is a oil glut and the Bay Area is performing well economically. So the Republicans are gradually getting hit.
