Facebook is the gift that keeps giving. Congressman Ed Royce (R-Fullerton) shared a graphic with a quote from former President George W. Bush on this 13th anniversary of the worst attack on American soil while Republicans held power in the White House and both Houses of Congress “honoring” first responders; it’s the image that leads this story and carries the Congressman’s signature because I’m sure he “approves this message.”
In case you didn’t already know, Ed Royce is a hypocrite when it comes to first responders on 9/11. He joined many of his Republican colleagues in voting against a 9/11 First Responders Bill. Joining him was Dana Rohrabacher, Gary Miller, Darryl Issa, Ken Calvert and John Campbell — being the Patriots that they are — also voted against the bill.
The so called Zadroga Act provides health care and other compensation to 9/11 first responders as well as survivors of the terror attacks in 2001. The total is about 30,000 9/11 first responders and survivors who have been diagnosed with an illness or injury. More than 2,900 have cancers that were caused or made worse by toxins released when the World Trade Center collapsed. The act passed in 2010, but the health component is set to expire next year (in October) with the compensation program scheduled to expire in October 2016.
Royce putting out the message on Facebook to honor first responders while voting against this bill, along with the other Republicans in OC’s Congressional delegation, make them cowards and frauds. If Royce promises to remember these first responders, perhaps he should do it when its time to vote.
