Computerworld, a prominent information technology publication, has taken notice of the debacle that is Orange County’s computer network boondoggle with a story that ran this week. The headline references that 6,000 pages of specifications for the project and the dramatic cost increases and how the county is back to square one.
Since our favorite crazy Uncle, Jim Righeimer current Mayor of Costa Mesa, had his butt handed to him in 2012 over his city charter scheme we’ve tried to ignore him as much as possible. But his commentary this past weekend in the pages of the Daily Pilot require at least some rebuttal. To ignore his rantings would allow his vile perspective to take root in the unsuspecting minds of his neighbors in Costa Mesa.
We’re scratching our heads, again, and it’s Anaheim that’s causing our itch. Yesterday Freedom Communications announced that it has signed a letter of intent with the City of Anaheim for the exclusive rights to solicit the naming rights from a corporate sponsor for the new Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center, a.k.a. “ARTIC.”

Periodically we find ourselves here at LiberalOC puzzled by our agreement with Libertarians on policy issues, particularly when it comes to spending taxpayer funds. We see such expenses as investments, while Libertarians see needles boondoggles of uncontrollable government overreach. But for the past couple years we find that Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait is more often the only person of reason on the Anaheim City Council.
A prominent California attorney has alleged that members of the Anaheim City Council violated state law when they voted on behalf of a $158 million hotel subsidy, after accepting contributions from a PAC tied to the project’s developer. Attorney Cory Briggs urged California Attorney General Kamala Harris and Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas to prosecute the council members in a letter sent Thursday.
The lawsuit by former OC Waste and Recycling Human Resources manager Kathleen Tahilramani was brought to light in a Voice of OC story in September 2012. In her suit Tahilramani alleged improper conduct by County CEO Mike Giancola, the then director of OC Waste and Recycling, claiming harassment and retaliation because Tahilramani reported allegation of improper conduct to Central Human Resources.
