Yes, this is a press release, but it’s a pretty good one and it’s all about an exceptional event the Orange County Young Democrats are hosting next week. And don’t let the word “young” hold you back. I’m a non-voting member of the OCYD.
On Wednesday, August 28th Orange County Young Democrats will host our inaugural summer event, Young Democrats in the Spotlight!
We are thrilled to welcome as our keynote speaker, The Honorable Betty Yee, member of the State Board of Equalization and candidate for California State Controller in 2014.
This event will highlight the incredible contributions young Democrats make to OC’s progressive movement. We will shine the spotlight on four exceptional young democrat leaders and share their stories:
- Julio Perez, Staff Director, Orange County Labor Federation
- The Hon. Bao Nguyen, Trustee, Garden Grove Unified School District
- The Hon. Al Jabbar, Trustee, Anaheim Union High School District
- Javiera Cartagena, District Director, Office of Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva
We will also recognize some up-and-coming young democrats–Rising Stars–who are sure to leave their mark on Orange County’s democratic community:
- Maria Claudia Breña Zorrilla, LGBT and Immigration Rights Activist
- University High School Young Democrats
- Connor Traut, Council Member, Ladera Ranch Civic Council
The funds raised from this event will allow OCYD to continue building a block of young, Democratic voters in Orange County. Together with our high school, community college and university chapters, OCYD strives to be the place for young democrats to obtain training, develop relationships, and learn the skills needed to become leaders within the democratic movement.

$35 – young democrat ticket (buy a ticket and we will waive your annual OCYD membership fee!)
$45 – general admission
$80 – couple
