Democratic Party of Orange County Chairman Henry Vandermeir announced on Monday that Texas Congressional Representative Joaquin Castro will be the keynote speaker at our 19th Annual Harry S Truman Awards Dinner on October 19th.
Like Orange County, Texas has been a bastion for conservatism but is now on the path of turning blue. As his state moves closer towards the blue column, Representative Castro will help us celebrate Orange County’s efforts towards that same goal.

Congressman Castro debuted on the national scene last year when he and his twin brother, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, were featured as rising stars during the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
The son of community activists, Joaquin’s commitment to public service runs deep. After earning a degree from Stanford and his JD from Harvard Law School, he returned to Texas. At only 28, he was elected into the Texas Legislature. In 2012 he was elected to represent Texas’s 20th Congressional District, while his twin brother Julian was re-elected to his second term as Mayor of San Antonio.
