The Democrats of Greater Irvine held a meeting Sunday afternoon at the Rancho Senior Center with the goal of revamping their club and electing new officers. New DPOC Chair Henry Vandermeir organized a meeting for what turned out to be around 75 eager Irvine residents who were dissatisfied with the City Council elections in Irvine last November. Council Members Larry Agran and Beth Krom were on hand to speak to the passionate group about how important it is to get back the City Council majority in 2014. Watching the lone Democratic Council Members of Irvine speak, you could feel an energy throughout the room that people were fed up with the direction the new Republican City Council majority was taking the city government.
People kept filtering in throughout the meeting and the building staff had to go into storage to get extra chairs, which they eventually ran out of. Elections were held for the various officers for the Democrats of Greater Irvine club and this is who their new representatives will be:
Chair: PK Wong (Candidate for Irvine City Council in 2012)
Vice-Chair: Matt Stone
Treasurer: Carl Mariz
Assistant Treasurer: Carl Flowers
Secretary: Dinah Frieden
From start to finish, the crowd was filled with enthusiasm. There were even guests from other cities around Orange County and people who were registered with the Green Party or as a decline to state that wanted to join in on the cause. After about an hour and a half the meeting adjourned, with a new list of eager volunteers, and a new executive board who are determined to get this club back in action so that Democrats can regain a City Council majority in 2013.
It was a terrific meeting with a lot of energy; nice to finally meet you Joel
I thought PK Wong was DTS.
I think that’s changed.
