You may think it’s too early to choose a candidate for the next presidential election, but if the Republicans want to take back the White House, they will need to stop bickering and agree on a candidate sooner rather than later. According to a Gallup poll conducted on June 1-4, former Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan is “rated most positively by Republicans.”
According to the poll, Ryan was the most favorable to Republicans at 69%, followed by Florida Senator Marco Rubio at 58%, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul at 56%, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie at 53%, and Texas Senator Ted Cruz at 40%.
The poll was conducted to test “the images of five Republicans who could run for president in the next election.”
When Gallup then asked Democrats who they favored most, the results were much different, with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie getting the highest rating at 54%. Then followed by Marco Rubio at 21% and Paul Ryan all the way at the bottom at 17%.
This poll was solely based on how registered positively or negatively viewed these five Republican officeholders. They first asked Republicans how they felt about them, then Democrats, then a random sample of both.
If Democrats were to be asked who they would want to be the Republican candidate in 2016 the results may be different because it would then change to who they felt they could defeat the easiest. Democrats would much rather have someone like Ted Cruz or Rand Paul as the Republican Candidate as opposed to a much more level headed guy like Chris Christie.
The poll didn’t ask about possible Democrat candidates, which right now looks like its Hillary Clinton’s job to lose. She will most certainly get the widely coveted women’s vote, definitely reach out to young people, and has done well in handling her share of scandals as Secretary of State.
Finally, the poll asked a sample of national adults which Republican officeholder they viewed most favorably right now and Chris Christie came out on top with 52%, followed by Paul Ryan at 40% and Marco Rubio at 37%.
It’s going to be tough for the Republican Party to choose a worthy candidate for the 2016 Presidential Election. But it looks at though they have found their front-runners in Paul Ryan, Chris Christie, and Marco Rubio. Time will tell if these three will stay at the top of their list or if guys like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz will creep towards the top.
