On Friday, we wrote about the posting of a job opening for a Senior Legislative Assistant at County of Orange. Our sources had informed us that the position had been specifically opened up to provide retired Supervisor Bill Campbell’s Chief of Staff Laura Cunningham with a place to land. We regret to inform you that our source may have been wrong, at least as of today.
We got a testy email last night from political consultant/blogger Matt Cunningham, Laura Cunningham’s husband, outraged that we would print such an insinuation about his wife, and post her picture, without calling her first. Matt wrote:
“Laura hasn’t even applied for that job and has no intention of doing so! You guys should be better than this.”
Okay Matt, we’ll give you that one, we should be better than that. In the rush to get the story up, which was meant to call attention to the rush to fill an apparently unnecessary job in the CEO’s office, we failed to give Laura a call. We were confident in the veracity of our source related to your wife and the position, and made the judgment that getting the story out was more important than getting a response from her.
We are checking with our sources to see how they could have been so wrong. But sometimes we may just get it wrong.
Oops.
Wow. Matt’s defense of his wife reminds me of another husband: Robert Oliver, husband of Santa Ana City Council Memeber Angie Azumecua, who frequently speaks for his wife, sometimes aggressively.
What is it with the suppossed “men” that they prop up their spouses and then feel compelled to defend them when criticized?
Wouldn’t it be better if Robert and Matt just ran themselves?
I know we don’t like each other much but………. The reality is there.
Mr. Oliver commented on a blog once to correct misinformation about his wife. He has been at a couple of functions but there is no conclusive evidence to prove your claim that he frequently speaks for his wife. But he and Matt are indeed men so you can remove the quotes Henry. Your version of reality isn’t accurate.
So welcome back; what country were you visiting overseas?
Perhaps on this blog he has remained reserved. But elsewhere he clearly is speaking for Angie.
We should be happy Michele is not married to a lawyer! Could you imagine that?
I was in India. Flew back through Dubai. Totally OVERRATED inmy view. Take the Frankfurt leg if you ever do it. Way less painful.
On Voice of OC, you wrote: “Sorry, I was overseas at a WNA conference with my collegues from University of Chicago Energy Policy Institute. For those interested we are discussing small scale reactors for use in developing countries. My project is the GE-Hitachi PRISM.”
WNA had one small event this month, the first week of March and it was not in India. They didn’t have anyone named J. Henry Gattis or Henry Gattis as a member or registered at their event which was not in India, and the GE-Hitachi PRISM was not a topic of discusson at their March event. This took me 3 monutes to do.
