Choi wants earlier start times for City Council meetings; Republicans try to rally the troops in Irvine

After last Monday’s Great Park Board meeting, Irvine Mayor Steven Choi wondered why there were no supporters for the Irvine Republican majority in attendance and made a quip that perhaps all of their supporters “were working at their jobs.”  According to a source close to City Hall, Choi has a request in to move the start time of Tuesday’s city council meeting to 3PM.  There’s no explanation for the request other than to limit public participation of a number of Irvine residents who don’t like the direction the Republican Council majority has taken.  Nice transparency and a brilliant move; if you don’t want to hear opinions from those you disagree with, move the time of the meeting to limit the attendance of those who will come.

So as a public service to all those Republicans who woke up this morning and got this email (see below) from OCGOP Precinct Chair for Irvine, Michael Martin, please adjust your schedule so you can be there on time.

Martin’s August 15th email to the Irvine Republicans was the first documented evidence of the claim that Council member Larry Agran had planted a fake candidate to run for Mayor when we’ve more than documented it wasn’t true.  Martin also claimed to have no knowledge of OC Weekly’s R. Scott Moxley’s mid-October story on the lie and no knowledge of multiple mailers put out by Irvine Republicans supporting Choi’s candidacy which used Moxley’s story to prove the claims.  Martin demanded to know who sent me the August 15th email; he’ll want to know who sent this one too.  Tough toenails; we ain’t telling.

Dear Irvine Republicans:

Come to the City Council meeting this Tuesday, March 12th at 5:00 pm and let your voice be heard!

The Democratic minority will have speakers who will address the Council in support of Larry Agran and Beth Krom.  They are also bringing a crowd on Tuesday.

We worked hard to elect our majority on the Council, Steven Choi, Christina Shea and incumbent Jeff Lalloway . Now lets support our City Council Majority in getting the Great Park built.

Lets also find out what happened to 220 million dollars with so little to show for it.

Please join us on Tuesday at 5 PM at the City Council chambers!
Michael Martin
