Garden Grove, CA – Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47), who serves as the lead Democrat on the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, hosted a defense industry roundtable in Orange County on Monday to connect local defense contracting companies with officials from the Department of Defense.

Alongside Chairman of the Subcommittee Michael Turner, Rep. Sanchez spoke about the significant contributions Orange County’s defense industries make to the community and economy, but also the challenges they face, including uncertainty surrounding federal budget cuts, the possibility of sequestration, and the potential impact further legislative actions may have on the defense industry.

“I’m glad to connect Orange County’s defense industries with officials from the Department of Defense and Congressional leaders, particularly at this time, given the uncertainty of sequestration,” said Sanchez. “The forum today provided businesses in my district the opportunity to speak directly to senior members of the Armed Services Committee, as well as key Defense officials.  I’m also very proud to welcome my friend and colleague, Chairman Michael Turner to Orange County, so that he can see first-hand the exciting new technologies that OC companies are developing. From Power Paragon in Anaheim to El-Com in Garden Grove, Orange County is on the forefront of defense innovation.”

“I’d like to thank my Ranking Member Loretta Sanchez for hosting me in Orange County today,” said Turner. “Seeing firsthand the work that is done in her community shows their commitment to our nation’s security and the growth of this key business sector. I look forward to her visit to Ohio this week, as she will hear from defense related businesses in my district. As we look to the potential impact of sequestration on our Department of Defense, hearing directly from these businesses on how they will be affected is highly important.”
