It seems the most competitive election in Irvine is race for three open seats for the Irvine School Board. And on October 9, voters will get a chance to see what the candidates are made of in a forum hosted by the Irvine PTA Council.
Details are as follows:
Irvine Unified Council PTA, which is comprised of 32 PTA units at schools throughout the Irvine Unified School District, will host a Candidate Forum for the IUSD Board of Education. The forum will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 7 PM at the IUSD offices at 5050 Barranca Parkway.
This year, there are nine candidates vying for three seats on the board. The candidates are Paul Bokota an Irvine businessman; Lauren Brooks, an educator and businesswoman; Margaret Brown, a school planning director; Omar Ezzeldine, chair of the city’s finance commission and an educator; Carolyn Inmon, a retired teacher; Michelle Ollada Alipio, a school nurse; Michael Parham, incumbent and School Board president; Bob Vu, an educator, scientist and entrepreneur; and Cyril Yu, OC Deputy District Attorney.
At the forum, each IUSD School Board candidate will have the opportunity to make a statement and answer two uniform questions from an unbiased moderator. There will also be a limited amount of time for questions from attendees. Attendees will also have an opportunity to speak one-on-one with the candidates following the program.
“Hosting the Candidate Forum is consistent with PTA’s mission as a strong advocate for public education,” said Petra Schaefer, IUCPTA President. “California’s public schools are facing a financial crisis and IUCPTA wants to insure that the IUSD community has an opportunity to get to know the candidates so that they can make an informed choice on November 6.”
The October 9th event is open to the public and will also be broadcast locally on Cox Channel 39.
