Councilwoman Michele Martinez (Santa Ana)

Santa Ana council member Michele Martinez has picked up a significant endorsement in her race for AD-69 with the back of OC COPS, the Orange County Coalition of Police and Sheriffs.  Her announcement is below:

OC Cops Back Michele Martinez for Assembly

Santa Ana, California –Michele Martinez’s Campaign for State Assembly announced the endorsement of the Orange County Coalition of Police and Sheriffs (OC COPS) today.

“On behalf of the Orange County Coalition of Police & Sheriffs, we’re pleased to announce our wholehearted endorsement of Michel Martinez for Assembly,” said OC COPS Chair Kerry Condon.  “Councilwoman Martinez has a deep understanding of the needs of local law enforcement and we’re confident that she’ll be committed to protecting essential public safety funding in the Assembly.”

OC COPS is comprised of thirteen law enforcement organizations serving Orange County families.  They have successfully helped support and elect/re-elect candidates for public office who are sensitive to law enforcement’s philosophy, needs and who have demonstrated an understanding of the many difficulties and dangers inherent in the lifetime career and profession of public safety.  OC Cops stands proudly as the collective voice of virtually all of the law enforcement agencies in Orange County and endeavors to promote, protect and defend the interests of law enforcement and the public through the political process.

As a member of the Santa Ana City Council, Martinez currently represents around 60% of the newly configured 69th State Assembly District.  She was first elected to the Santa Ana City Council in 2006 and re-elected in 2010.  A strong advocate for public safety, economic development and education on the council, she chairs the Parks, Recreation, Education and Youth Committee and is a member of the Neighborhood Improvement/Code Enforcement Committee.  Michele holds a B.A in Criminal Justice from California State University Fullerton and she is a product of Santa Ana High School and Santa Ana College.  She works as the Director

Councilwoman Michele Martinez (Santa Ana)

of Orange County Nutrition and Physical Activity Collaborative Obesity Prevention Plan.

Martinez is running for California’s 69th State Assembly District, which includes the city of Santa Ana and portions of Anaheim, Orange and Garden Grove.  By population, the 69th Assembly District is the most Latino seat in California.  Latino surname residents make up around 76% of population and compose over 50% of the electorate.  Female Democratic voters hold a 6% registration lead over their male counterparts.

  1. So despite the fact Roger Hernandez-D 57th AD Representative and prominent Martinez endorser/boyfriend was just found to be legally drunk when he was arrested March 27th at 2:00 AM as he pulled into a seedy hotel in Concord with a Kaiser Hospital lobbyist, Kerry Condon and his Orange County Coalition of Police & Sheriffs went ahead and endorsed someone who does not appear to have a problem with drunk driving.

  2. I saw this once again as one not supporting her: Could you stop trying to choose the most unflattering photo of Michele possible?

There’s only one liberal in the race, Liberal OC! (Well, maybe two counting Paco, if he’d label himself that way.)

  3. Interesting that her press release says she works as the director of NUPAC. She no longer is with that group. She is director of Alliance for a Healthy Orange County. They split off of NUPAC a couple months ago. She is the only employee. Visit http://www.ochealthalliance.org/ to find out more about this organization.

  4. Not sure how significant this endorsement really is. For an organization representing cops to endorse an admitted F-Troop gang member calls the credibility into question.

  5. All you need to know about this endorsement is that the Santa Ana PD is next on the chopping block. Unions will pay for that vote. You want to know what Police said about her a mere 2 years ago? Same thing as Pulido: She is a self admitted drug dealer and self admitted gang banger who can’t be trusted with the safety of the City of Santa Ana. So what has changed in the last 2 years?

  6. Michele Martinez a strong advocate for “public safety” when in the past two weeks now in the city of Santa Ana in Ward 2 the ward councilwoman Martinez represents has had an increase in gang violence. Recently a shooting that led a 16 year old boy who was shot close to Santa Ana High School, when again Michele advocates for public safety and education Seriously! I live in ward 2 in Santa Ana and was aiming to vote for Michele but I can tell she lost her priority to serve her community and just cares about her political career just like many other career politicians. Michele is endoresed by the OC COPS well thats great she should get some cops to help our community to stop the rise in gang violince.
